Black Lives Matter

In response to the recent events tied to the deaths of un-armed Black people across the country, San Jose Bike Party would like to take a moment to acknowledge the inequality and injustice that Black people, and all people of color, disproportionately face in the United States of America to this day.

San Jose Bike Party – arguably the first and largest bike party in the US – was founded in one of the most diverse urban areas in the country. As such, we stand in solidarity with communities of color and condemn discrimination and racism in all its forms. We believe that all people—no matter what color, age, or ability—should be treated respectfully and be able to walk, bike, and live safely. San Jose Bike Party’s motto is “Building Community Through Cycling”, and a true community is the only thing that can effectively battle racism in the long run.

We should have more police reform, fire the “bad cops”, and put more anti-discrimination laws and policies on the books. We need a critical mass in majority-culture to have TRUE friendships, relationships and connections with those of different backgrounds, sexuality, colors, and cultures. We will never have change until People of Color are treated as “us” rather than “the other”. A true community is the most effective way to battle racism in the long run.

We are committed to listening and learning how to do make this right. To everyone experiencing the violence of racism daily: we see you, we love you, we mourn with you, and we welcome you.
