Everyone knows Legs are what power our pedal party. This Friday we will finally be acknowledging the fact and celebrating our often overlooked southern appendages. Bring your feet and plan to pedal down some of our favorite streets.
Be safe, legal, and courteous (see How We Ride!). We share the road with other traffic. Helping cars move through smoothly makes the ride more enjoyable for everyone. Do your part to encourage good behavior! Also, please remember to turn down the volume when riding through residential areas late at night.
Information on the route and more after the drop …
BIRDs
BIRDs are our wonderful volunteers that attempt to keep everyone on our rides safe. Please be respectful of their directions and thank them for all of the effort they put into the ride. If you want to help out and make your mark on Bike Party, please join the BIRDs at the volunteer cicle prior to the start of the ride.
Volunteer Circle
Volunteer Regroups are now marked on the map if you want to get plugged in come by and introduce yourself
Ravens
Ravens are the elite group of BIRDs that make sure we leave no trace behind by cleaning up after the party at regroups. They are essential to keeping the party going. If you see any of them with a trashbag collecting your trash, please thank them and if you are so inclined please join them! They are a really cool bunch. Please bring trash bags and help us leave no trace.

Feeder rides
Feeder rides are a great way to get to Bike Party They allow you to make great friends and get to know people who live near you. They also make it super easy to get back home as a group as most folks ride home with the group they arrived with. You save the planet and save on parking while getting a little bit more exercise. It’s all good.

The usual suspects who lead the Campbell feeder ride are not likely to be available this month. Anyone else want to step up and lead it? It’s a relatively short feeder this month.

Is there no one leading the ride in South San Jose/Campbell/Willow Glen/SJ Downtown area?
Santa Clara is a bit far for those of us in the south part of SJ.
Please keep me posted.

I’ll lead the feeder from Willow Glen, meet at the KFC parking lot at Meridian Ave and Curci Drive, departing at 6:45pm. Also important to note is that the portion of Santana Row between Olsen Dr and Olin Ave will be barricaded with planters.

I’ve never done the bke party ride, and since it starts at 8pm it does get dark. I don’t have lights, and I notice in the pics there are riders without. You think its safe to ride with no lights? Some safety in numbers I suppose.

Every rider should have lights. There may be parts of the ride where you are not in a big pack, and not being able to see or be seen is dangerous. Modern lights for bicycles are lightweight and reasonably priced.

Rick, No it’s not safe, or legal to ride at night without lights. Folks can and have been ticketed for riding without lights on a SJBP ride. you should go to your local bike shop tonight before the ride and talk to them they should have a set of decent lights for under 20 bucks. (if you spend more you can get much better lighting options)

School is out!
The weather is always awesome this time of year in the most bicycle friendly community in America.
Let’s have a rousing turnout to welcome the Bike Party Summer of 2012.
Before the festivities can begin, let’s all “take the pledge to keep it totally safe” by following the rules of the road outlined in: HOW WE RIDE; with emphasis on “sharing the road” with all of the other motorists we encounter on this clever Bike Party route.
BIRDs get a little nervous with these HUGE-summertime turnouts.
So, please, my bicycling brethren; please let’s endeavor to keep safety and respect for Bike Party, paramount in our minds tonight, and throughout your summer bicycling activities.
Remember Bike Party is a “family friendly event” — so, keep an eye out for families with toddlers in tow.
Let’s get out there — with your road ready bicycle — and enjoy the music with the friendliest, ultra-hip, and coolest fun-bunch of people with the great positive vibe; that makes YOUR San Jose Bike Party: the greatest party on wheels in the U.S.A today, or; Planet Earth — if you will!
You are welcome to post and share your Bike Party experience, feedback, observations, and reviews right here starting tomorrow morning.
Let’s keep it safe and… much love to all my bicycling brethren of the Bike Party Community!
PEACE!!

The ride just passed my building, never heard of this group before. Looks like a fun party!
Suggestion: when planning routes, try to hit the residential areas earlier rather than later. Official residential “quiet hours” start at 10pm, even on Friday nights, and the party sounds carry at least a block over from whatever street you’re riding on. (example: even over the sound of the TV, I heard music and shouting and honking for about half an hour, a block from Bascom, from 10-10:30pm.)
Totally support what you do, just want to minimize the disruption to non-riders.

Just watching the bike party roll by… Cool idea, too bad it’s full of rude dicks. The “how we ride” is just posted for cover — the only time I saw people stopping for red lights was when the cops were right there. There are people towing speakers blasting out music in our residential neighborhood. Not cool. If you want to do that, do it at 11 am, not 11 pm. Saw one guy hop off a bike and take a piss on the side of someone’s house. You guys are leaving a great legacy behind your “party”.

I live on Campbell Ave and the Bike Party is passing by my house now. What a trip! I’ve never seen so many bike riders having so much fun. The music is great, the colors on the bikes are great, the people are great! Everyone is having a good time. I’ve been watching for about 45 minutes and they’re still going by. This was really fun to watch. Thanks Bike Party!

Seriously, Tonight you people riding down Samaritan and Union woke up my Toddler at 10pm with your yelling and loud music. You are disrespectful and if you want the city to give a rats behind about you then follow traffic laws. I saw one of you get hit tonight from going against a red light and pulling out in front of a car! The woman was injured and taken to the hospital by HWY patrol. Why are you riding late at night when there is NO CITY OFFICIAL to hear your plea? You’re presence is absolutely pointless for the cause that most are using to defend their actions. Next time I will possibly have some sticks and stones possibly available to help you’re plea for “safety” so that maybe you will some can fall off a bike and show we should make bigger bike lanes to accomidate morons.
