This months theme is the Rapture ride. Lots of folks think the rapture will occur right before the final battle between the Angels and Demons. Basically you will see the same stuff that was in the movie Ghostbusters
Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes… The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria!
Sound like Fun? Pick your side and get Dressed up…
Which will you be?
Angelic or Demonic?
Either way you can be sure they will be All Lit up….
Discuss the theme Below and share your Ideas….

Okay I’m sorry to say but why must there be the worst possible themes? Angels vs. demons is somewhat irrelevant to October. Why not something relevant to Halloween? like zombie theme or something, like the last October one, that was good. I’d like to participate in the themes but no they fucking suck. Under the sea? science ride? c’mon people seriously?

Joey, if you can do so much better why not show up at a volunteer meeting and help pick themes?

“Why not something relevant to Halloween? like zombie theme or something, like the last October one, that was good”
Last October’s theme WAS THE ZOMBIE ONE. One thing SJBP doesn’t do is repeat themes.
Plus isn’t zombies played out enough? It’s not like SJBP runs near Oct 31st anyway.
what a terrible theme

You should definitely roll a halloween costume if it makes ya happy, I’m sure a bunch of people will.
They’ll blend in with the “Angels & Demons” and it’ll be a Halloween ride.

I would have to agree with Joey. A lot of us cant make it to the test rides or other meets. Why not get the peoples input regarding the themes thru the website or facebook. You would get alot more people dressing up for the parties. A lot of these themes are so boring or hard to do. Have a vote ahead of time for the theme and im sure a lot more people would participate. I give props to the organizers for doing all the work but please take the riders input.

I personally don’t think the themes are /that/ hard to figure out or work around. I didn’t restrict myself to the name of the theme of last month’s ride and dressed as a sailor girl since it was sort of part of the theme. IMO I think the themes are very open ended and up to your own interpretation (ie: get creative). I came up with a list of ideas in 5 minutes for the “Rapture”
Angels, Demons (whatever variation you can think of), Jesus or something bible figure related, Raptors (playing on the word Rapture), Nuns, Priest, Raptor Jesus, crazy spaz wearing a sign saying “the end is here!!”, zombies, dress like a westboro baptist church goer

Those of us at the last Volunteer Mixer did take online suggestions into account. We discussed a lot of suggestions that were made on this website and on Facebook. Then we added our own ideas to that list and voted on our favorites. So your voices are being heard!
Part of the reason why the theme is “Rapture” this month is because October 21st (Bike Party day) is the day in which Harold Camping has predicted the end of the world. So…. the actual rapture is supposed to happen during Bike Party! Check it out in the news: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/05/23/national/main20065559.shtml

I like the idea of open ended themes. Plus, just realize that a theme is just like a “general idea” that the Bike Party Community can rally around for a specific ride.
Let’s not make a BIG issue out of the theme folks, ’cause we all know Bike Party is all about “the ride” and bringing the bicycling community together to celebrate our unconditional love of all things bicycle.
Yeah, we can all agree that some of the themes have been lame; but, sometimes we come up with a great one — like a hit song.
I think SJBP should focus it’s time and energy to other BIG issues that will make the bicycling community better, like safety, and increasing adherence to “HOW we ride”. These have much more upside to improving SJBP than selecting the “perfect theme” every month!.

I think JellyCube gets it right. Be creative. I like her twisting the word rapture to raptor. Or look up the word in the dictionary. It is a state of being carried away with joy, love or ecstasy. Express your joy any way you want.

The best themes seem to have a very specific dress associated with them. Pirates, zombies (sorry Mike), orange, green, formal, scarf, animals…. “Science”?!? The rapture is a tough one. Seems like it might be a good idea to focus on what kind of dress and/or accessories are associated with proposed themes before they are voted on. And since themes are easily a third of what the hub does, perhaps the link to proposed and past themes should be front and center on this web site, so all interested riders can participate (and not just the very few who can make one specific meeting).

Wow,
Not the most positive comments so far this month.
Last month’s ‘Reflections’ with no ride recap and only 18 comments.
Flickr only having three pictures added from last month.
Even the forums aren’t as active as they once were.
Looking at the top of the page I see the two lines
San Jose Bike Party
Building community through bicycling
and I wonder,
Are we?

Thank you San Jose Bike Party for organizing yet another soon-to-be epic ride.
This will be my fifth ride with you guys over the past year and I have enjoyed every single one of them. My favorite in recent memory was the Mad Science one. It is great to see people dress up in costume but it’s even greater to be united on the streets of San Jose, seeing parts of my community that I do not see every day.
I love it when kids rush out of their houses with excitement to scream “bike party!”
I really wish I had something this cool happening when I was a youngster. Bike Party Makes ME feel young again.
for that, I thank you, and I thank you for what you’ve given back to the community. It’s one of the few things I look forward to participating in (or at the very least, reading about) every month.
Thank you.

Hey J, your eloquently stated sentiments echo’s those of the GRAND-silent majority of Bike Party devotees!
That is where the “rubber hits the road” as far as I am concerned.
Thanks for keeping it pure and real.
Bike Party forever!
