Ladies it’s time to start stretching those legs so you’re ready because SJBP’s Second Annual Ladies ride is this Saturday July 23rd at 6:00pm
It is no secret that cycling is a male dominated activity. We would all like to see more sisters, mothers, daughters, girlfriends, and wives out on the 3rd Friday of each month enjoying Bike Party. Whether you are a Bike Party regular or if you want to try a social ride for the first time, the Ladies Ride is the perfect opportunity for women of all backgrounds and riding levels to enjoy cycling together!
This special event is designed to accommodate many different types of bikes and riders. Novice riders will like that the ride will be at a relaxed pace and the route is only 16 miles with no hills. If you experience a problem with your bike, we will have volunteers at the start and at regroups who should be able to assist you with light repairs.
Recommendations on how to prepare for the Ladies Ride:
1. Plan on riding safely. Check out San Jose Bike Party’s “How We Ride”: http://www.sjbikeparty.org/how-we-ride
2. If you haven’t ridden a bike in a while, try riding a round your neighborhood a bit to stretch out your legs in the days leading up to the ride. Keep in mind that you can probably ride farther than you think you can, especially when having fun and socializing with others!
3. It is a good idea to pack plenty of water and have lights on your bike.
4. Invite the women in your social circle. This is an event that they will not want to miss!
Gentlemen: Although no riders will be turned away from this ride due to their gender, please remember that this ride is really for the females.

So this evening before Mark’s (6) bedtime we went on a ‘Pajama Ride’ along the Coyote Creek trail. Saw some deer eating. Then, before Evi went to bed we lit up the tandem and rode all around. The weather for this Ladies Ride couldn’t be better.

Im hoping that the men that crash the party can at least do so in style… by wearing dresses! (chuckling)

During the San Jose Bicycle Party last Friday July 15, around 1130 PM, I was involved in a bicycle accident.
I was transported by ambulance to SC Valley Medical Center. I was injured, but will be ok. I was lucky I wore my helmet.
Since I have no recollection as to what happened, and it takes 10 days to get a police report, I will be very thankful if there were any witnesses who can fill in my “blanks”.
I thank the person who called 911 and those who assisted in my discomfort.
Hoping to hear from you to fill-in my blanks, I can be reached at simonlodewijks@yahoo.com
Thank you,
Simon Lodewijks

Heading to the ride on CalTrain. There’s a train that arrives @ 5:51. Is that enough time to ride over to City Hall before the ride? Do you roll right @ 6:00pm or do you meet @ 6:00pm and linger for a bit before rolling out?

Just barely enough, you’ll arrive right on time.
IMO the preride festivities are always fun, might you consider taking train #436 that gets in at 4:51 and giving yourselves a few more minutes of cycling fun in SJ before the Ladies Ride?
That gives me an idea, but it needs someone else to step up and make it happen since I’ll be bringing both of my very special ladies on this ride. Could another BIRD please start a circuitous preride from Diridon at around 4:55 that would get to City Hall at the appropriate time? I just checked the velogirls web site and I have a hunch these girls can ride.

Hi there Lorri. With the train arriving Diridon @ 5:51. There will be a chance that you will not miss us at all. Just make your way down Santa Clara street towards downtown/City hall (between 4rd and 6th streets). Which will take no longer than 10 minutes even with lights.

Is there parking? Will the ride return to the start so I can retrieve my car? I live too far away to ride, and can’t bring my trike on Caltrain. When will the route be posted?

The ride returns to the start. Street parking usually isn’t hard to find just north of City Hall, and I believe most meters are free after 6pm (just a quarter or two might be enough to get you to 6pm). http://www.sjdowntownparking.com/ is also a good resource.

Lynn, one suggestion would be to park at the CalTrain station and ride over from there.
