It’s time to dig out your bellbottoms (make sure they don’t get caught in the chain) and find your platform shoes because this months theme pays tribute to the ’70s. Think disco, leisure suits, big hair, mood rings, pet rocks, and all-steel bikes.

I was thinking, at the beginning of the ride, should we have four different starting points like how we did at the October ride? Usually the beginning of summer bike party rides can be a bit chaotic, and cause a couple of hurt feelings. By having four different starting points, I believe things would go much smoother. It’s just a suggestion, but I hope you guys take into consideration about it. Thanks!

I agree four different starting points is a great way to start the ride. I also know it takes alot more coordination and planning to pull it off. I think it is probably too late to consider for this months ride. Maybe we can consider it for upcoming rides if we can plan far enough in advance. Keep in mind this requires more planning and more volunteers to make it happen. What we have been doing pretty regularly is the prerides from different neighborhood locations to the start point and that is pretty awesome too. Again, close to the day of the ride we ask for volunteers to post details as to where they can lead a preride from.

Mmm okay. Probably use it for the july and august rides then? cause those have a lot of bikers attending too. That way we have more time to plan it out, I believe. Nonetheless, thanks for the info!

It seems that the actual start times for SJBP and Bike Soiree rides are increasingly slipping farther away from the posted start times. Last test ride started 40 minutes after that posted. Thirty minutes is significant. Twenty minutes is a lot. Ten minutes is appropriately accommodating for those a bit late, and respectful of those planning things after the ride, in my humble opinion.
I’m an extreme procrastinator. I like the time padding, but often feel the group is itchin’ to start way before we actually do. I find myself increasingly banking on a much later actual start, and that’s dangerous for anyone with my temporal affliction. So I’m respectfully calling on ride leaders for truth in advertising regarding start times.
If this earlier than usual start time is to accommodate an anticipated 30-40 minute delay, that should be posted. If there will be a meeting or presentation before a start, please mention it. I know first hand how difficult it is to get the group going. Like herding cats. Accurate start times for nighttime rides, and predictable end times for midday weekend rides will encourage more to ride and regularly.

You’re talking about the test rides, right? The main SJBP Friday night rides have been starting pretty close to the posted 8pm start time.

Hi, Fisrt of all I’d like to thank you for doing such a wonderful job within the community. I look forward to these rides and is so worth the 4hr drive I make to get there. After each ride I go home and share with friends, family and strangers about how much fun this is. My friends and I would like to do something like this in our community and I was wondering if you could give me a little guidance. I’ve conntacted our city and they suggested some type of liability insurance or attorney written waiver, which is costly. Is there a way I can get around this? We don’t want to be Held responsible for any injuries or accidents. I’d appreciate any help, advice or suggestions you can give us. Thank you.
