Great one and, if properly marketed, it will be destined to be SJBP most popular theme ride ever!!

This is a GREAT idea!! Not only is it a clever spin from the original “Hot August Nights” but it’s also going to look like we’re all right out of Tron.

Hey this is the perfect theme as I’ve been updating the bike party wiki site on this subject. Check it out for ideas! (some of the links aren’t quite up, but will be ready very soon)

And please contribute your own ideas!

I think this is a great idea too! Perhaps some great possible parties would be like cycling shops, performance, or trailhead. I definitely more interested in bikes and accessories since SJBP.

Have you contacted Bikeglow?… they’re out of Santa Cruz. They have pretty clever El Wire bike safety kits.

Contest award categories could be… (just to get the ideas rolling)…
‘best lighting’, ‘most colorful’, ‘most technical’, ‘brightest’, ‘best use of lasers’, ‘best POV (persistence of vision) display’, ….
And the award recipientS could receive a flag (cloth or paper) that they could proudly display during the rest of the ride so everybody riding around them would know of their achievement.

i love the flag / ribbon idea but i don’t really have the cycles to make flags… is there someone who can take this on?

I’m planning on coming to the 8/11 meeting and could take this on. If there is someone with more artistic talent, that’d be better. Otherwise, if someone could provide me a logo/graphic I could incorporate into the banner, that’d be good. Either the SJBP logo or the ride theme logo.
And for those of you lighting up your bike that think you have a shot at winning, you should include a flag pole with a light so, if you do win, your banner is lit. (just an idea…)
One last thing while I’m here, I see some people have a name you can click on, how’d they do that? and, is there a way to include an image instead of the grey/white silhouette? Just curious.

FINALLY! A GREAT theme brought back! Some of the themes you guys have picked for previous rides were…LAME! “Light Rider” has been one of the best themes and everyone who Ive talked to since that ride has wanted to do it again! “Diety ride”?? sorry but as soon as saw the toga pic on the BP site I thought “a toga will get caught in my spokes and I will crash!”, Togas are for jocked-out-frat parties, NOT Bike Party Rides! Please pick more themes involved with Bicycles not costumes, what percentage of riders dressed up for this last ride? not very many…I saw about 40 people outa 3000! I know you guys are trying to keep the themes interesting but this is a Bike Ride, involve the Bike more often!

Good comment, but please be aware that Bike Party is not solely an all bicycle event. Don’t overlook — nor minimize — the all important “party and fun” aspect of the ride that gives Bike Party it’s unique appeal.
The themes are not always on-the-money, however; I think a majority of us would agree that they get right about 98.5 percent of the time.
Like we see positive momentum building for a clever August theme ride.
Bike Party baby!

Contest, huh? Does it count if I have 36 volts on-the-frame to play with? Seems like cheating; I already run probably 1kw of lighting on my daily beater!
Those who think lasers would be cool need to keep in mind that lasers in a large crowd can be dangerous, especially at night when someone’s night vision is really important. There is a reason why they have cautions printed all over them, even the pen lasers …
Looking forward to the ride.

Jenn what do you mean?
are you asking how to support the folks who are sponsoring the contest?
I think they all sell lights via their websites…

Ooook. I think I get it. So they are sponsoring the lights contest…are they selling lights at discounted prices?

Great theme!!!
Last month a friend told me he had to wait a 1/2 hour before being able to make a left hand turn through Bike Party. He was furious! If our riders can’t respect the rights of our fellow drivers we will be shut down!
At the beginning of each ride and at each rest stop one of the organizers should broadcast loud and clear that unless we respect the rights of the cars we’ll all lose an event that we have grown to love.
