If you ride often, carry the right food/tools, and have a lot of determination, you will complete this ride with a sense of accomplishment, whether you ride 30, 60, or 100 miles!

UH OH on the 60 mile ride! Mile 48 up Suncrest is very steep (540 foot elevation change in 1.5 miles) and may not be achievable for many (including me). Now if that was not bad enough, has anyone actually checked out mile 49? Boulder Drive at Claitor was closed due to a landslide 30 years ago. The road is fenced off, and then 100 yards of the road is nothing but rubble and not even recognizable as a road. Absolutely not ride-able. People would have to carry their bike around the fence and down the road until they reached a ride-able road in Alum Rock Park!

How about using the Coyote Ck and Los Gatos Ck trails instead of surface streets? The route parallels these trails and they would be safer and more pleasant.

I get a blank screen when I click on the updated route – facebook link. I ditto Stan’s comment – Suncrest would be a challenge.

Here goes…I finally figured out Google docs and I did the Left-Right directions for the Limits 100 ride. I think this is how I’m supposed to post.
PS Basking Ridge Ave dead ends at mile 70 and never reaches Metcalf, so i did a slight detour onto Monterey for a few blocks and then back to Metcalf
(editor’s note- part of this post edited. Turn by turn directions coming soon!)

Note on Baskings Ridge to Metcalf:
There is a paved bicycle path that connects these two roads that doesn’t show up in street view of MMR or google maps. You can see it on satellite view if you zoom in. If you’ve never ridden it before, it’s really cool because it let’s you ride way out in the east hills over Coyote Valley, with some extraordinary views and no real presence of cars. I’ll try to post a picture of it soon.
Turn-by-turns will be posted in advance of the ride, and well before it begins (a few weeks), once the ride is 100% finalized.
A quick shout out to everyone who’s helped out so far- Yoshi, Nick, Scott, Bill H, Rapid Robert, everyone who’s signed up and everyone who’s posted comments, anyone else I forgot (sorry!).
Volunteers are needed for the following:
route leaders on the 30 and 60 mile (esp. the 30)- route leaders are familiar with the turns and can guide a group through the route. A fun and very important job that doesn’t involve much. Especially good for those who are looking to practice their BIRD skills.
test rides: we need to a run of the 30, mostly for fun and to get the momentum going. a run of the second part of the 60 would be fun, too. any takers?
want to support the ride in some way? we already have one volunteer (rapid robert) who’s going to ride the 30 mile, then jump into a van and traverse the rest of the ride to help out when needed. something like this? other ideas: post up at a rest stop with some extra tools, maybe some food or gaterade. if you live on the route and want to offer up some water along the way.
ideas? suggestions? post ‘em here or e-mail ryan@sjbikeparty.org.
keep pedaling and getting ready for this awesome ride!

I noticed that the “60-mile” ride is actually 61.81 miles on MapMyRide. Should we make it 62.14 miles and call it a “metric century”? Just a thought

Any bike shops want to sponsor a refreshment stop? Be a cool way to meet some riders – from somewhat new to uber experienced. And easier to staff than the usual nighttime Bike Party! Plus a lot of fun…
