Happy Holidays!
We have a neighborhood-focused ride full of holiday lights this month.
There are a few important things to remember:
- Arrive on time! Wheels hit the street @ 8pm!
- Light up your bike! It’s dark, it’s the holidays, DO IT.
- Please don’t forget to follow the “How We Ride.” Make this a successful ride by keeping fellow riders, pedestrians, and cars happy and safe on their commute. We don’t want any crashes or $400 tickets.
- Bring a canned food item or two to be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank.
The route for the event is here: Scarf Ride Route Map.
Please print (1-10+) these out before the ride:
The starting and ending point of the ride is 101 Paseo de San Antonio Walk – by the SJ Rep. Please do NOT park at the starting location.
Volunteers needed! Meeting @7:30pm (prob towards the SJ Rep box office)

Happy Holidays my bicycling brethren.
This month’s Bike Party will kick-off the holiday festivities in the South Bay.
Let’s keep it safe and real.
Law enforcement kicked off their holiday zero tolerance for drunks with 365 check-points across the state. Please let other motorists pay for this massive operation. Let’s declare zero contribution from Bike Party revelers.
I suspect that Bike Party revelers should be very careful of planned a sting operation to enforce these rules during Friday’s. Please don’t get caught unaware my brethren.
The fines and legal dilemmas brought on by any drug related citations could ruin your holidays and bring a bad start to the New Year.
I urge all of my bicycling brethren to avoid any use of grog during this Friday’s Bike Party.
I am so concerned that I am even going to ride clear headed and leave me beloved “main-squeeze”, Mary Jane at home. Let’s have fun; please take and post many photos of the Holiday spirit along our well designed route.
Big ups my brethren!

I really wish I could’ve made it to the gathering tonight, but did a bit of homework to make up for missing it. I scanned the map for the Scarf Ride and added in all the street names for the ride that were missing. Hope it helps others who like visual turn-by-turs directions like I do. Here’s the link. I hope it prints out as a full page.

Come on Bike Party let us show the South Bay that we care about our community by supporting the SECOND HARVEST FOOD DRIVE!
Please bring a minumum of one can of food — perhaps more; if you can.
I know many of us are ONLY about the ride and nothing else; however, we are also a uniquely influential group by our large numbers.
And with that kind of influence and visibility comes responsibility — social responsibility.
Let’s build some political capital by making these food drives successful. It is a cheap, inexpensive, but extremely powerful gesture that will make our ride more enjoyable when we realize that we played a significant part in easing hunger in our own community during this Holiday Season.
Please spread the word of the Food Drive and remind all of your friends and members of your groups who will attend Friday’s Bike Party.
Please don’t be caught SCROOGING nor GRINCHING on this very important Bike Party Community Operation.
We need massive support for this Food Drive because in the words of the late MJ:
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me
Happy Holidays!! BIKE PARTY FOWEVER!!!!!!!

@Rapid Robert – sweet job on that map – thanks… maybe admin can post this??
Only road missing is Madronna (sp?) between Radio and Cottle and some near beginning but this is an incredibly useful map!!!
@Jahlaen – Great comments, talked with someone else at the Winter Wonderland and I’m not sure if it was a SJFixed event or not, but they had a contest with a time trial to see who could bring out the most goods.
I wish we found out about this before… but can we have an informal contest Tanner?
Can someone bring a scale and weigh the donations if someone wants bragging rights?
For those that can only bring a can or two great, but they had guys bringing 50-80+lbs of donations! And this guy was bummed cuz he lost the contest by 5lbs! lol

Help out by familiarizing yourself with the route and bringing turn-by-turn directions with you.
Volunteers and BIRDS will do our best, but it’s up to EVERYONE to take responsibility.
There’s a small handul of people who work their butts off to make maps, directions, etc., hoping that everyone has fun and stays on course. This route is fantastic and it would be a shame if anyone got off course.
This is one of the best Bike Party routes ever planned so let’s keep it awesome by riding positive and building a community of bicyclists and friends.

Just looked at that route and i believe its the best route yet i love it, it goes through some stoney neighborhoods that have really sick lights. Through cuts of willow glen then into campbell and then right by my childhood park maryjane into santana row and valley fair back to downtown this is one sick route i thank for who ever made this route its the best yet.

Hello fellow “Party” riders, Beware, I have some more bad info regarding Spliffers comments above. This was taken from The SJPD website!
“The City of San Jose Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint and Saturation Patrols on Saturday, December 19, 2009 from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., at an undisclosed location in San Jose. In an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes, DUI checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.
Be careful all, this could be trouble!

There’s no “official” Pre-Rides but if anyone wants to ride from Campbell or South San Jose that’d be cool. (Ian is leading one from North SJ/Santa Clara (see above).
From Campbell we’ve been leaving from the Campbell Comm Ctr and rolling thru dt Campbell. That could be a good option.
From South SJ – whatever you guys decide
IF you take VTA, come early and grab something to eat downtown… it is called the “Scarf” party after all.
“‘Merry Christmas!” & “Happy Hannukah!” etc!

make it a little more simple. The instructions and location don’t need to be so complicated to get to. You guys just fuck up too much
