Just as Waldo explores a new environment with every new page, so SJ Bike Party turns the page on another exciting adventure through new territory of Southeast San Jose! This month’s ride brings:
- a food donation drive with Second Harvest Food Bank! bring non-perishable food to the start!
- new roads you’ve never seen before – some great, some sketchy
- a mix of ‘hoods from dense & urban to hilly & country open space within city limits!
- new libraries and other new city buildings
- Northern California’s only active velodrome with a race for you!

Reminders
- Please review How We Ride before joining us – it’s the single most useful guide to the Bike Party experience!
- Read Get Ready to Ride for a checklist of things to remember. Bring lights and wear a helmet! This ride hits some very dark roads with occasional rough pavement – be prepared!
- Bring fenders and rain gear – we ride rain or clear – and rain seems likely.
- Help us keep the party festive – colorful costumes, bright lights, and music trailers make the night a blast! Please do try to keep noise down in residential neighborhoods, and be sure to ride sober – some more foolish riders have discovered the hard way that $400 tickets are no fun.
- Ride to the ride! Please do NOT plan to park a car at the start location or at the velodrome – there is absolutely no parking at either location. Plentiful parking near the start/finish at VTA’s Capitol Station, north & south of Capitol Expy @ Narvaez.

For those interested in riding home to downtown San Jose after the ride, here’s a map specifically for you: Capital Buick to DT SJ – SJ Rep
For everyone else, just ride the reverse of how you got there!

Look for the “Routes” section…not too hard, I hope.
Hopefully the rain misses much of the ride, but if it doesn’t I think the “test riders” would agree we chose a great mixture of roads and two great regroups!
Test riders, look at the map and see how we mixed the various rides together on a much shorter ride… then write your comments (good or bad) here!
A great thing about this route is it’s entirely in San Jose. It’s fun to ride elsewhere, but this month brings us on roads that are solely in our great city, something that a lot of riders have been asking for.
Another thing is that parts of the route go alongside some of the only remaining open space in what was once America’s fruit basket. This includes the Coyote Creek alongside Coyote Road as well as Cottle Ranch on Chynoweth and Snell, one of the few farms leftover from San Jose’s agricultural origins.
Also, we’ll be hitting up the historic IBM property and seeing some new developments in park land there. And the Velodrome plays an essential rle in the South Bay bicycle community. Oakridge, of course, will be fun.
But what about the start/end point. We are turning the Capitol Expressway Auto Mall and an abandoned car dealership into a cycling community. It’s going to be amazing!

11am-2pm storm in and out — almost all out by 3-4 pm …. with most stuff (as usual) in the north bay!

Think there will be a lot of Twilight fans at Oakridge? Hope so cuz that’s where we’re going!
Weather forecast means racing should go on. Look for pre-rides… I’ll be leading one out of the Capital Buick lot at about 6:15-6:30…
we still need leaders for a pre-ride leading out of Capital Buick at 7:15 or so… plus you can help lead rides out of campbell or dt sj too!

Since I haven’t actually ridden this route, I did it strictly from the map. Hopefully there are no mistakes.
L – Thanks for making this TxT for Campbell to Main start and posting it! Only one correction: missed the “L on Hillsdale” after “pass Foxworthy” The document’s not open so we can’t correct the directions.
