First time? Need a refresher? Check How We Ride!
We have something a little different this month, so don’t get scared! We are starting the ride from 3 different locations. (Yay, close to your house!!!) The ride will then converge and everyone will ride together. Many neighborhoods and many types of riders make up San Jose Bike Party, but together we ride as ONE COMMUNITY!
Find the Best Starting Location for You!
Where do you live?
- Downtown SJ – join a pre-ride to a meetup point (@ Cesar Chavez park, 7pm)
- East/Alum Rock Leg Start (@ McKee & Capitol, 8pm)
- South/Oak Hill Cemetery Leg Start (@ Tully/Curtner & Monterey, 8pm)
- West/Campbell Leg Start (@ Winchester & Campbell, 8pm)
(The route links are posted in each starting points descriptions. Regroups are indicated by water on each map. Each route ends exactly where it started)
Tune your radio to KSCU 103.3 FM during the ride!
That’s right, one of our very own volunteers, Kipp (also the promoter of the Tuesday Bike Nights at Campbell Sonoma Chicken Coop) will be broadcasting on-air LIVE during the Bike Party! Tune in to KSCU, at 103.3 FM, and program your phones to call in: 408-554-KSCU (554-5728).
1. Downtown SJ Pre-ride Start
Meet at 7:00pm at Plaza de Cesar Chavez Park. This ride will leave at 7:05. Be there on time!!
Pre-rides from downtown will ride to the South/Oak Hill Cemetery leg start (about 3 miles), East/Alum Rock Leg Start (about 4 miles), OR to the West/Campbell leg start (about 7 miles).
If you arrive late to Cesar Chavez park, just ride down Market to 1st St which becomes Monterey Rd – you can turn Right [corrected] into the Plant Shopping Center just before Curtner/Tully, which is the Southeast/Fairgrounds leg start.
2. East/Alum Rock Start
Meet at 8:00pm at the Mervyn’s Parking lot at Capitol and McKee.

there’s no mention of meet-up spots. will there be any?
billy – meetup spots? do you mean regroups? yes, 3 for those returning to their respective start locations. or 2 plus the “end” if staying downtown.
No, will all three starting locations of people eventually meet up as ONE bike party??
so like, theres only regroupings on the way back? 0.0 0.o i think there should be at least one. and where downtown does it end?
So like where is the actual* start? is it going to be at the McAfee building again?
Im soooooo stoked about this months ride!!!!! There’s been alot of careful planning, and serious volunteer hours..
Thanks to anyone who contributes, in any way, to making BikeParty happen!!!!
Your hard work pays off…. the third friday of every month!
This ride is going to be the best ever!
I encourage everyone to ride their bikes to a start location since there are so many this time – 4 possibilities if you include downtown, plus official routes to get back. Riding to the starting points makes it more and makes us more visible in the community.
San Jose, you belong to us!
Our rides are getting more and more organized – what’ll happen when our wonderful organizers can no longer plan for each month? It would help if Bike Party rides could return back to being simplistic –one start location and one friendly route– to ensure that it is easy to coordinate every month for a long time (years and years!).
Still, this two year anniversary ride’s going to be great!
Ok I am totally lost…so we are all starting at diff spots but stil riding the same route?? please explain
yess please explain?
Do all of the rides converge into ONE big ride or are there going to be THREE different rides going on at once? I know what you are going to say that you cannot please all of the people, but One start and end point is the best way to go…IMHO. I hope we all end up merging together into one big bike party as they have always been. I Know you guys and girls are doing your best but lets not try and overthink these things. I want it to be known…I am not bashing, I love what you guys do to put these things on.
ROLL ON BIKE PARTY!!!
We start in three different spots and then all converge on one main spot, then continue from there as one massive group. It’s going to be EPIC.
sounds awesome….
They put starts all over the place so there isn’t a big mess at the start like the past few rides. Plus this helps relieve parking since most people can now ride to a local start point. All the routes meet up about 9 miles in and then ride together into downtown when you can meet up with a group headed back to your local start. Its a great route for the 2nd anniversary.
IVE BEEN LOOKIN AT THIS MAP AND THIS SHIT IS GENIUS.ALL 3 STARTING POINTS WILL CONVERGE IN THE HEART OF SANTA CLARA..WHICH WILL BE A TOTAL MESS..YEAAHHHH!!!!BIKE PARLAY!!IMA JUMP ON THE RIDE 2 BLOCKS FROM MY HOUSE
Tried to print out map directions and got “Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here”
Has print function been pulled off line temporarily?
man, there’s going to be a ton of people complaining the day after! lol
I hope that all you riders in downtown SJ take advantage of our three teams of BIRDs leading rides from DT SJ to each of the three starting points.
Got friends in east, south or west SJ? Have them ride there and you’ll meet them there via these organized “pre-rides!”
Note that Ronnie Twist and crew is leading riders from downtown SJ to the east SJ starting point at Capitol & McKee. It still doesn’t show as of 7pm thru 11:15pm ;-( Thanks Ronnie!
All of us downtowners got it made! A sweet spot in the park and 100 or so bikes. Show up to Cesar Chavez before 7 to make some noise in the heart of the Silicon Valley before rolling out to the starting points. No matter where you want to end up, we will make sure you get there, and on the way we can show downtown and central San Jo what were made of!
100 or so? how about 100s? 300-500?
how many from SJSU?
Note that the east SJ and south SJ routes go right past SCU, so we’re not leaving you guys out either!
Ingenious ride, albeit extremely long! Why? This is definitely not for the timid. Most were tuckered out on the 24 mile route on the September ride. I do like that some of us can jump in to the ride at various points. The 5 mile mark passes right by my home! Can’t wait to see the costumes. I’ll be decked out in lots of glow in the dark.
I find that these rides are longer but easier cuz there’s so much to see and so many people to talk to. I went on a test ride so I know these are the best routes yet, so I wouldn’t sweat it if I were you. But get me alone on a bike and it’s totally different story: a mile’s too damn long.
I’d strongly recommend anyone to listen for the announcements in downtown at city hall to make sure you ride out with the group heading back to your starting point tho! And make sure it’s the right one.
i agree keep it simple .. 1 starting point and 1 route.. took me like 20 min to figure out where the hell to go (partially cuz im an idiot )
Our plan tonight is to meet up with the South/Oak Hill Cemetery group at Bascom Ave and W. Hedding St. since the ride comes back through there in the end. I’m super excited for this ride.
Me and the 10 other Sombrero wearing skeletons will be out tonight!! BIKE PARTY!!!
If we’re starting from Mervyns in SC about what time should we expect the groups to converge? 9ish?
is there one or 4 different start points? where is the first initial start up point?
I might be reading this wrong but why do all the routes have the same exact “turn-by-turn” directions? Is that possible when the starting points are all different?
Sometimes change can be good. Don’t worry!! It will be a fun ride.
Most likely the groups will converge around 10ish.
Me: I suggest you read comments ahead. There are 3 different starting points. Pick one.
To all you complainers and “wet diappers”, please give this new format the good ol’ college try and then express your opinions tomorrow.
Change is good!
You should all know by now that SJBP is not a stodgy community that sits still.
Bike Party is about change and growth.
So enough complaining! Change your “wet diappers” and as of this verry moment the “Partay” is on!
I just know you bellyachers will be signing thanks & praises tomorrow.
So… just shut up and ride!
Raggy- I was confused by the turn by turn directions as well, but I think I got it…the different links do have different PDF files, but the print out for at least the Southeast Leg directions just has the incorrect title (says Alum Rock) on columns 2 and 3. I think there are three copies of the directions on one page so you can print one page and share with friends.
Sara – thanks for being specific…I’ve fixed the problem now, I believe.
I’m feeling pumped. Evening temp is just right!
See you guys on the ride!
Where is the location that everyone is supposed to come together and regroup at? or is there just one officialy starting point. This Is Very Confusing.
I am disappointed at how loud all of you were and really, come on there are people with young children under the age of 4 that go to sleep by 9pm regardless of the day. The next time you decide to come across our area, please be quiet or better yet, don’t. There are appropriate places to be loud and obnoxious, please don’t do it on my street. Go to your local bar instead. I promise you, you’ll have more fun there than riding your bikes.
I would like to let all the nice bike riders know that I was trying to get out of your way tonight and there were many unpleasant riders who were out there for a different purpose than what is stated on this website. Also, there were riders smoking marijuana and also swerving in front of people on purpose. I work in an emergency department and treat injured cyclists all the time. I guess they don’t realize they could really get hurt when they dart out on purpose like that. All people are different, and some drivers might not have a quick enough reaction time.
Bike Party was awesome last Friday!
I took lots of pictures, many of which made this page:

Thank You Bike Party for a great evening, and some pictures that give my website a totally Halloween feel!
