We chose a theme many of you recommended and we love it!! Dia de los Muertos Ride- October 16th at 8 PM
Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. It has been defined as “a festival meant to celebrate life while mocking death, a testimonial to the power of love and remembrance.”
We planned a very unique ride this month! This ride has multiple starting locations so no matter where you come from in San Jose, this ride should work for you. We will be posting the route a day or two before the date of the ride, stay posted.
Because it is our two year anniversary, we want to see your costumes!! Dress up crazy – but don’t ride crazy. Take a look at the “How We Ride,” tell your friends to read it and follow it.
If you would like to get involved, sign up on the link. We will also have a volunteer task sheet distributed a week or two before the ride.

the rides are fun especially the ones in san jose. the mountain view ride was a little out of the way and inconvenient for myself and alot of people i know. we’re all looking forward to the upcoming dio de los muertos ride. please take into consideration that having the rides in san jose is way more convenient for us locals and those of us that are more actively involved in SAN JOSE bike party.. also for those of us who are down for bike party but then have work early in the morning. so hopefully this next ride will be in sjbikeparty’s hometown.

@anonymousE — it was explained in the forums that it was an outreach ride to expose other cities to SJBP. it worked. move on
@admin — please stick with what you wrote on the SJBP Facebook page—–
“SJ Bike Party is run by volunteers. We plan this event because we love it!! We plan something that many people love and enjoy for FREE.
If you are unhappy with the rides, want to make changes, or want to help then volunteer!! Come to a meeting.
Our next meeting is October 6-save the date!!
Sign up here to volunteer: http://www.sjbikeparty.org/who-we-are
If you want to make San Jose and the South Bay a better place, you have to act.
We spend at least 20-50 hours a month planning the ride. (20-50 hours per person-there is about 10 of us). It is really disheartening to hear complaint after complaint after all the hard work. Especially when the complainers make no effort to help with the ride.
Moving forward, people who want to complain and moan will be deleted.
(Constructive criticism is OK. Questions and presenting why you are having a problem with x, y, z is OK.)”

I have something to say about where the rides are. All the people that complained about where the last ride was need to realise that not everyone who enjoys BIKE PARTY comes from SJ. It was a 5m little jaunt to get to the Bascom start spot. Not a big deal. If you have been on a ride you should plan accordingly not only how to get there, but how to get back. It may be late, and you may have to ride home. Im not bashing anyone just saying, you have realise that people come from all over to enjoy Bike Party. Roll On!!

Less than one week to our biggest Test Ride in anticipation for our biggest, baddest Bike Party by far! Less than two weeks to BP! Can’t wait?
We need riders to help make signs – just as @Stephengal mentioned. This will reduce the # of volunteers we need during the ride, but we still need a LOT more volunteers (BIRDS/non-BIRDS)!
Anyone want to share pics of how you’ve tricked out your bike (or you) for Dia de los Muertos – ahead of the ride? Give some others some great ideas… with this theme you can go crazy wild for you bike and yourself!

Dias de los muertos is a great theme. It’s closely related to Halloween and still different enuf to not be! I love it.
The people who put this together are awesome. the SJBP team put in a lot of time and their effort makes this a great event. Thank You. It’s appreciated by many. Where ever you guys plan on going we’ll be there.
The meetings they have are cool. they’re pleasant and productive. I’ve been to a few and they were very welcoming. I’d encourage more people to act instd of suggest. The amount of stuff that already got implemented from the last meeting is outstanding. good job.

Taking SJBP to other cities was cool. like a road game for a sports team. see new sites; meet new people (building community through bicycles)Many Ppl I rode past were totally unaware of it. I stopped by and explained a little to them. they were astonished.
Someone stated before on these posts that it gives the SJDT area a chance for some SJBP relief and exposes the event to other cities. it gives a taste of SJ flavor.
On the other side, I agree that we should come back to SJDT area, like a home game for sports teams. the SJ state finish line is classic. The build up at the end also helps the bay area night life. In a financial way as well. it brings a big crowd to the DT area. many people hang out after and go to the bars and lounges.
Either way, SJBP team (birds, hubs, spokes) your all doing great. I enjoy all the effort whether they prove to be beneficial to SJBP or not. Thank you for all your ideas and suggestions
and to all other riders…
Understand that this isn’t a corporate ran event. It’s structured by volunteers who put in their extra time and effort. SJBP is relatively new and especially new to dealing with this large of a group. As Bike Party develops, Im willing to try new things to be a part of its growing.
Thanks for reading.

I’ve been working on a way to measure the brightness of bike headlights easily and consistently. I’ve measured the output of my new Magicshine P-7 LED light to be 375 lumens on high, much loweer than the specified 900 lumens. This is easily the brightest LED headlight I’ve seen, so I want to measure others in the real world for comparison and calibration of my system.
I’ll have my set-up at this month’s Bike Party. If anyone wants to know how bright their light is, please find me (it should be obvious). Thanks in advance for the help!

“KS” –> if you cant handle the complaints then get out the game.
what makes you so sure that im not involved in the meetings and i dont volunteer?
you say “(Constructive criticism is OK. Questions and presenting why you are having a problem with x, y, z is OK.)” well i had a problem with “x,y,z” and i presented it here so that’s “OK”
if you have a problem with people disagreeing with you and posting complaints then why does this comment section even exist?
its called SAN JOSE bike party. enough said there.
now i know your all butt-hurt so please be predictable and delete my posts so i can laugh at your dumbass.

I loved bike party and I will travel where ever in order to be a part of it. You will never hear me complain as I am happy that I am able to participate and promote safety, getting involved in the bike community and getting epople pumped for the ride of their life. I have gone to the past 3 meetings so see how much effort goes into planning these routes and everthing else.
ROCK ON BIKE PARTY!!!!!!
Hello?
October 15, 2009
Being an “outsider” who has never attended a SJBP but was interested because of a Craigslist post, I have to say it’s both amusing and sad to see the behind-the-scenes “politics” displayed on your public comments page.
I suggest that criticism/negative comments be saved for your volunteer meetings where they can be handled constructively and hopefully the name-calling will end there.
Volunteering is tough, gruel work with no limelight. Make sure to praise when it is due and make suggestions on proects that you are prepared to fulfill yourself when appropriate.
That being said, Ride on……..

I hope we keep the Dia De Los Muertos theme for this October. It would be great to have one consistent theme to be known for over all the years. The shirts were a big hit. Would be great to have those, too.
