MARCH TEST RIDES
The feedback from our first March test ride is positive. Join us for a ride this week!
Anyone who has been on a test ride knows how much fun it is. A smaller crowd makes it easier to get to know people and it is a great way to gear up for the 3rd Friday event. We are always looking for people who want to ride bikes and help get our routes ready for future rides.
If you would like to help out and love SJBP please come out!

The promise of rain couldn’t keep Bike Party from happening last night. Approximately 1,200 riders were counted right after the Winchester Movie Domes. What could have been a down pour in spots, turned out to be a fantastic ride! Honestly, the weather couldn’t have turned out nicer. Many thanks for all the volunteers who posted up on corners and worked many hours behind the scenes to pull off this ride. And yes fellow riders, we love that you made it out this month!

Highlights included the high energy levels that everyone brought as we rolled past neighborhoods and all over this town. Music trailers and more systems on individual bikes kept the vibe going. The Mary Street foot bridge remains an amazing image in my mind. Seeing a taco truck at the rest stops was truly a bike party first. And when the occasional spill happened, people stopped to help their fellow riders get back on the bicycle, simply amazing. We truly hope that Bike Party is able to foster a sense of positive behavior as we hit the streets, meet new people, make friends, and continue to explore the community we are all part of.
Share your reflections here in the comments – if we see any recurring themes, we’ll add to this post.
Please post & share photo/media links!
Come out for an amazing and friendly evening of bike chat and sweet learning!

Amber & Ben loving the meeting
Bike Party’s monthly volunteer meetings are where it all happens, and where we need YOU to step up to make it even better. Routes get planned and arranged on amazing test rides, but every other part of this unbelievable phenomenon is planned and discussed at meetings – fun ones, at that, full of wonderful bike people!
This month’s meeting is Wednesday, January 6th at 6:45pm at the centrally-located Sophisto Society!
Bike Partier Tim will teach us how to make affordable small sound systems that can go on ANY bike (no trailer needed!) with painless non-technical set-up!
We’ll discuss how to plan “bonus” rides and other events and we’ll get updates on bike events and news around the valley.
See the entire agenda as a PDF!
Most importantly, we’ll hang out and have fun with other wonderful volunteers and figure out ways to make all of our fun crazy ideas happen!

We seek your assistance to make this Friday’s ride the best one yet!
Lights - Your bikes need lights and taillights more than ever! If you are a bike store, from Highland to Walts to Sports Basement… let us know what discounts you may have available for SJ Bike Party attendees. We’ll post here.
Cameras - Bring your cameras. Follow whatever instructions are given at Hellyer Velodrome regarding flash. Still pics and video during the ride and regroup is great if you can do it safely.
Signs - We need construction signs and barricades to help with key turns! We’ll affix our SJBP signs to these! If you have any (or can ask a coworker or friend) please email sjbp.prerides@gmail.com as soon as possible. If you can help distribute these Thursday evening/Friday even better!
Music - Trailers, rear racks or handlebars are all good! We need many more! If you have built a setup, share your secrets. Lightweight music setups for 20-30 riders to hear are most welcome. You don’t have to have a 200-300W trailer system! Remember: Please turn down the music in residential areas and crank UP in remote areas.
Action - At Hellyer velodrome is exciting and all of us riding together up Hellyer Rd is too. The steep Hellyer climb has been taken out of this ride for safety considerations, etc. A cancer survivor called the ride “exhilarating!”
Please post questions for all of these items to sjbp.prerides@gmail.com
