Announcement: More March Test Rides

MARCH TEST RIDES

The feedback from our first March test ride is positive.  Join us for a ride this week!

Anyone who has been on a test ride knows how much fun it is.  A smaller crowd makes it easier to get to know people and it is a great way to gear up for the 3rd Friday event.  We are always looking for people who want to ride bikes and help get our routes ready for future rides.

If you would like to help out and love SJBP please come out!

Bike the Limits 30, 60, and 100 mile ride

Bike the Limits!

Have you ever wanted to ride 100 miles?  Or attempt to ride all the way around the City of San Jose?  How about a daytime Bike Party ride?

On Saturday, April 3rd, Bike Party will ride FARTHER and LONGER than ever before as we ride along San Jose’s city limits, going places where Bike Party tires have yet to tread. With 30, 60, and 100 mile versions of the ride, this party has something for everyone!

Turns-by-turn directions will posted once the routes are 100% finalized and well before the day of the ride!

Running of the Bulls Ride – Route Details

Kick off the year Running the Bulls with a mellow OR challenging ride through the Evergreen hills!

You've always wanted to run!

You've always wanted to run!

We will start together at Eastridge Mall (Eastridge Center) then split horns at Ruby & Quimby, with the “mellow” flatter steer chase heading North and West. The “challenging” steeper bull run will roll East and South. Both rides will meet up again on Yerba Buena road near Hwy 101 to ride to downtown San Jose. We’ll try to keep the mellow steer ride regroups short so we can coordinate both routes to meet at a similar time on Yerba Buena. If you’d like to go back to Eastridge after Regroup #3, simply take a right on Tully Rd.

TIME: Show up by 7:30pm – Wheels hit the street at 8:00pm!

Maps

Mellow Steer Ride: MapMyRide (the flatter version), “Visual Map” (all of ride) , the “Turn by Turn” directions (double sided format)

- or -

Challenging Bull Ride: MapMyRide (the hilly version), “Visual Map” (only miles 3-10.5, see other map too), the “Turn by Turn” directions (double sided format)

Note: The Mellow ride at 220ft elevation overall is slightly more than average…but the 486 ft for the “Challenging” ride is great… but only if you know how to ride! Be sure to let faster riders pass on the left *inside the rightmost lane* and let slower riders merge right.

For Pre-Rides please look at “more” down below.

Note that the VTA Alum Rock station is only about 2.75 miles away and the Curtner station is about 4miles away. (DT SJ is 5.65 mi away – you can park there and join a Pre-Ride)

As always we need Volunteers at key intersections and to ensure riders go deep in to the regroups!

Scarf Ride- December 18 at 7:45 PM

Its cold outside, so so cold so we are having a scarf ride!! This is an easy “costume,” and you have NO excuses not to dress up.  We want to see that scarf fly like a flag!

Because of the season, we are pushing the ride up slightly earlier.  Wheel’s will hit the street at 8 PM.  That means, get there early!!!

Scarf

Sneak peek of route and starting location:

  • The ride will start and end in downtown SJ.  As always, the exact starting location and route will be announced a day or two before the ride-perhaps earlier!
  • The route will include a nice tour of lots of lights throughout the town (tentatively dt SJ, Willow Glen, Rose Garden, Campbell and more…)

Getting There:

  • If you must use VTA, get there early.  Light Rail fills up quickly.  Take Light Rail early to downtown San Jose for dinner.
  • If you need to park, park using the downtown SJ parking map, the orange lots are the cheapest. Or park at Tamien CalTrain and ride in; it’s only about two miles.
  • If you are taking a train, the San Jose Diridon Station is the closest, but Tamien CalTrain Station has free parking – station list and map
  • Ride your bicycle to the starting point! We will be announcing pre-ride meet ups with the route.

Other Important things to remember:

  • We are having a can food drive.  Bring a can, bring ten!! Help out those who need it this season
  • We are starting early-don’t forget it!!
  • If your bicycle/clothing is ill prepared for the cold wet winter weather?  Winterize it.  Join us for a great time at our Winter Wonderland holiday party two nights before Bike Party and get an extra SJBP discount that night only!
  • Refresh yourself and your friends of the “how we ride” and bicycle laws.

Lights, Camera, Signs, Music, Action

We seek your assistance to make this Friday’s ride the best one yet!

Lights - Your bikes need lights and taillights more than ever! If you are a bike store, from Highland to Walts to Sports Basement… let us know what discounts you may have available for SJ Bike Party attendees. We’ll post here.

Cameras - Bring your cameras. Follow whatever instructions are given at Hellyer Velodrome regarding flash. Still pics and video during the ride and regroup is great if you can do it safely.

th-Construction-signs barricadeSigns - We need construction signs and barricades to help with key turns! We’ll affix our SJBP signs to these! If you have any (or can ask a coworker or friend) please email sjbp.prerides@gmail.com as soon as possible. If you can help distribute these Thursday evening/Friday even better!

Music - Trailers, rear racks or handlebars are all good! We need many more! If you have built a setup, share your secrets. Lightweight music setups for 20-30 riders to hear are most welcome. You don’t have to have a 200-300W trailer system!  Remember: Please turn down the music in residential areas and crank UP in remote areas.

100_7910_dusk 100_7939Action - At Hellyer velodrome is exciting and all of us riding together up Hellyer Rd is too. The steep Hellyer climb has been taken out of this ride for safety considerations, etc. A cancer survivor called the ride “exhilarating!”

Please post questions for all of these items to sjbp.prerides@gmail.com
