Get ready for Friday’s ride! Some highlights of the ride to get you pumped:

Donate here!
- A great mix of scenery, roads, people and a smooth 24 (feels like 16-18) mile ride.
- Among the best start, regroups and ending points we’ve ever had!
- Located near common major work areas! Bike to work!
- Lots of restaurants nearby to eat before the ride, plentiful parking nearby for $2.
Additionally, by popular request some BIRDs will be wandering around the ride with donation cans just like the one pictured here. If you want to help make this ride sustainable, please donate (cash only, sorry) whatever you can.
Now, let’s give you the location and route – which means it’s time to review How We Ride!
If you follow these eight rules, Bike Party will be a safe and a positive place for riders, drivers, pedestrians, and the community.
- Stay in the right lane when possible. NEVER ride the sidewalk. NEVER ride against oncoming traffic.
- Pick up your trash, leave nothing behind.
- Stop at red lights.
- Ride straight, ride predictability.
- Roll past conflict.
- Leave no one behind.
- Ride sober! It’s illegal and dangerous to ride a bicycle inebriated.
- Make some noise! (We need your help to remind those who aren’t following the rules!)
For more details on these eight rules please read here.
If you AGREE with these rules, please click here to view this month’s ride route:

It’s often worth giving 5 minutes before commenting on fresh posts. This post should be working for everyone now. Please remember that everyone who runs this website is a volunteer, not a web development professional. We welcome help! If you want to contribute to the website project, please come to our next planning meeting in October and volunteer!

I am going to echo Gilda. What happened to sj bike party. So now I am forced to drive to the start with a heavy carbon footprint because I can’t take a public transportation system equipped to handle a large number of bikes? What is with the secret regroup and ending location? I am bringing a group of kids…you are creating a logistical nightmare for me and what am I supposed to tell their parents? C’mon folks, you are ruining a wonderful event for many of us.

Hi Bike Party organizers,
Can’t do a bike party so far away from Downtown. Life is too short to start at 101 and Great America.
This month’s ride should be re-named SantaClara/MountainView bike ride.
I’ll be bike riding in Downtown SJ without you tomorrow night.
Hope you get the route corrected in October. I’d love to ride again with SJbikeparty.

folks, it’s not that far away… if you can join one of the “Ride to Bike Party!!!” group rides leaving from downtown SJ or downtown Campbell. Riding with a group makes it sooo much easier.
the “turn by turn directions” show where we’re wanting you to park. you’ll be directed to where the “start” location is… or just follow the crowd of riders… we hope to have something special at the end of this ride too!

yeah, i hear the complaints about the distance – i’m looking at a VERY long day of riding for myself as well.
a few things that might help explain the logic here:
1 – if you can ride 20mi on a Bike Party ride, you can ride another few miles to/from the start. yeah, you’ll burn some more calories, but it’s do-able.
2 – if you don’t like the planning that’s happening, participate in the process. Bike Party is open to new volunteers every month. the next volunteer meeting will be Wednesday, October 7th – mark your calendars.
3 – a huge reason for mixing up the routes is that we wear out our welcome very quickly in any one area. YOU can help solve this problem by a) becoming a BIRD to keep our ride clean and well-behaved, and b) recruiting your friends to become BIRDs with you – it’s more fun that way.
4 – please remember that volunteers have worked VERY hard to develop what’s here. you might not think it’s the best, but someone else who shares your passion for Bike Party spent hours and hours working on these questions to arrive at this solution. if you want to try to make it better, PLEASE get involved and volunteer.

what a bunch of f-in whining… enough already.
shouldn’t have named it cross dressing party… should have been “grow a set of balls and deal with it whiners” party
with all due respect to nick’s answer, some people will struggle with 20-24 miles. so DRIVE…. what’s the big deal. look at it this way, you’re donating $2 to mission college. they need the money.
it’s not that far away, they even set up 2 rides to go from sj & campbell to santa clara
oh and nick the volunteers always work hard at sjbp, it takes a lot more effort to make something happen than bitch and moan about it
btw sjsu is playing stanford on saturday after us… in guess where? yea, that’s right palo alto
how many sjbp’s started in sj and how many started in campbell?
stfu already…

The secret regroup #3 location is, if it’s where we visited on the first test ride, a truely awesome place to stop. You’ll LOVE it!
The specific start and stop locations will be easy to identify when you’re in the area. Don’t worry about it. Get there a little early.
If you’d like, consider the ride to be starting at 6:30 in downtown San Jose at the pre-ride start location. If the milage has got you stressed, take the light rail home from Tasman. Look for solutions, everybody, it’s a PARTY!!!

Just in case anyone is wondering, all of the money we spent from donations is recorded here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tE3wh1w74wOsf_0DDHpU4kQ&single=true&gid=0&output=html
(this does not include all the money we spent out of pocket for various items)
Just making route sheets for 1000 people costs on average $50 a ride.

All you folks complaining about the start and the route, please — PLEASE — be open to a little change.
I think the effort to expand to the sorrounding communities is wise. We will still remain SJBP, but we can reach out to our bicycling brethren in close by communites.
It is a logical & natural expansion.
It is such a wonderful idea to expand the beauty of Bike Party.
You shouldn’t just like… you should LOVE it…..
Embrace this change my brethren.
It can only make us so much stronger!
Please open your minds and your hearts. Instead of thinking just of yourself — try to see the big picture and let’s be one big and happy South Bay bicycling family!
Now cliose your eyes and imagine…
Can’t ya just feel the beauty and the power of — IT ~
LETS GO!!!! BIKE PARTY FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome route this time. I am glad its exploring uncharted territory!! 3 Cheers to the volunteers, the organizers, and all the AWESOME BIRDS!!!
I know this is far for some people, but you can drive to the ride park at Mission College and you will be just fine for the ending point. Both the start location and the end location are very close to each other.
See you all there!

IF you guys can’t make it go to this event instead:
Friday Night Track is Spinning to the 70s!
September 18 at Hellyer Velodrome 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm. Food!
Beverages! Racing! Entertainment! Free!
Say what? That’s right, boys and girls. Time to shake your groove
thing at Hellyer Velodrome next Friday, September 18. Thanks to the
sponsorship of San Jose Bicycle Club and the helpful stewardship of
SJBC President Jon Racine, it’s disco all night with no brakes
allowed.
Resident DJ, Chris “my fro is out of control” Panella will be keeping
the crowd in the mood as racers race, spectators spectate and everyone
enjoys great food, great drink and a great big blast from 30+ years
past. So, dust off those boxes from the attic, wash last week’s digs,
or swing by the closet of any 45+ Masters racer and getcherself some
proper threads.
What? You say you blocked the memories of what you wore in the 70s
and burned the photographic evidence? Or, worse! You weren’t born
yet?
Never fear! Jon Racine, President of SJBC is here! His simple how-to
list gives you every step you need to do the locomotion right back to
the 70s. Thanks, Jon!
Step 1 – HAIR: Wear it. Lots of it. Afros, shags and mustaches for
the men. For the ladies, long and straight or permed and fried. And,
what hot look screams “My hair is so 70s!” for everyone? Feathered
wings. Bring your own comb.
Step 2 – MAKEUP: Make that body shimy and shine. Dip yourself in
glitter, stick on your longest eyelashes, and spackle on a heavy
pancake of blue-not-found-in-nature eyeshadow. Remember: Eyeliner is
your friend.
Step 3 – OUTFIT: Sport vibrant earth tones in awkward, unflattering
combinations. When you know your butt looks big, you’ve found the
outfit! Synthetic fabrics only, people! Polyester and flammable
accepted. Check your labels! Bonus points for 70s suit ensembles:
Sansabelt leisure suit, velour jumpsuit, or the iconic Village People
suit.
Step 4 – FOOTWEAR: Slip on those platform shoes – white, tight, and
vinyl preferred.
Step 5 – ACCESSORIZE: Men, time to flaunt the chest carpet if you’ve
got it. If you don’t, skip this week’s waxing. Everyone? Sexy gold
chains, plastic hoop earrings, and a calculator watch.
And, for those that can’t be without a visual aid, here’s to Stayin’
Alive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_PVPu1EKr4
Huh? You still can’t believe so much fun can be had on one small
disco field, check out the outtakes from the last Friday Night Track
blowout:
Take it from Darren Hirose who filmed it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itoW0pSpqe8

That happened.
So, be there or be talked about! Track opens at 5:30 pm, registration
opens at 6:00 pm, mayhem rolls out at 7:00 pm, disco is a lifestyle.
P.S. We have 2 tent space spots left for a vendor to showcase their
super fine wares. Contact Michael Hernandez at

BACK TO THE FUTURE: COMING SOON!
TUESDAY NIGHT TRAINING: We’ve got Tuesday Night Fall Training coming
up. Imagine a rotating series of beginner classes, intermediate
racing clinics, and a special low-key racing event starting September
29 through the end of October. Too good to be true? No! It’s
happening. Details coming to ridethetrack.com/calendar soon. Or,
contact Michael Hernandez at pedalhome@hotmail.com with any

hey biketime, we don’t plan to leave till 8:20pm, first regroup is at the Mt View CalTrain station, that has a VTA light rail too!
Do any express trains workout for you better?
Don’t ride to Mission College – ride over 101 and take the first right – that leads you to Freedom Circle and the start.

I was really looking forward to this but finding out it is so far away is a bummer. I think the orginizers are trying to weed out the bad apples, but in the process are weeding out the good people too. Anyways, I hope for the sake of all the people that are going to drive/caltrain out that far that you don’t have cops harassing everybody for nonsensical reasons like last time.
