August 21st Ride-Beach Blanket Bike Along

Comments for this section are closed, please take them to the recap.

We are super excited to see everyone at Friday’s ride!!

However, before we give you the location and route we want to remind everyone of the How We Ride:

If you follow these eight rules, Bike Party will be a safe and a positive place for riders, drivers, pedestrians, and the community.

1.  Stay in the right lane when possible.  NEVER ride the sidewalk.  NEVER ride against oncoming traffic.

2.  Pick up your trash, leave nothing behind.

3.  Stop at red lights.

4.  Ride straight, ride predictability.

5.  Roll past conflict.

6.  Leave no one behind.

7. Ride sober!  It’s illegal and dangerous to ride a bicycle inebriated.

8.  Make some noise!  (We need your help to remind those who aren’t following the rules!)

For more details on these eight rules please read here.

If you AGREE with these rules, please click here to view this month’s ride route:

Beach Blanket? soooo we wear beach wear?

02
August 18th, 2009 7:29 pm

Many of you have asked, “is it beach themed? is it beach blanket Babylon?” The theme is both. Its up to interpretation.

August 18th, 2009 11:33 pm

Both the pre-rides, and stealth rides, have been a blast! I’m loving this months route!

Awesome starting location (Trust me!)

Amazing re-groups

Great theme!

If you enjoy our party, and want to keep it alive….

1. Stop stating problems without contributing to the solution. Come to a meeting, do a pre-ride, pick up trash. JUST GET INVOLVED. Believe me, it’s funner when it’s “your ride” not just one you show up to.

2. Please, for your safety and mine, FOLLOW OUR RULES! They’re there for a reason. Remember that drunk-beyond-belief 20 year old that almost plowed into you on a previous ride? HE WASN’T FOLLOWING THE RULES

3. Bring a friend!

4. BIIIKKEEE PAARRTTTYYY!!!!!!

REASONS TO VOLUNTEER FOR BIKE PARTY:

1. Bike Party is amazing
2. Bike Party can’t run itself
3. Bike Party organizers are working their asses off for the rest of us and they need OUR help
4. Volunteering means more riding and the chance to meet even more people
5. Pre-rides are a lot of fun
6. This is probably the coolest thing to happen to San Jose in a long time, let’s keep it rolling.

and, finally,

7. BIKE PARTY!

So come out and ride on Friday and then next month sign-up to volunteer in some way. There’s lots to do for every style of rider and the more styles of riders we have volunteering the better.

Hey, I don’t understand why the location is being announced 24 hours before the ride? What’s the purpose of that? If you want a new location, you could just change it and announce it as usual. It just seems like a lot of people are going to be left confused…

We want people to make an effort to learn about bike party, come to the website, understand the how we ride.

Too many people are just showing up because they heard “you can drink on bicycles and fuck shit up.” That’s not what we are about.

If they get confused and don’t come, that’s fine.

In addition, the starting location is changing every month to lesson the impact on the community. It will never be just one new spot.

The people who won’t be confused are the ones who communicate, in any way, with those hosting the party. Just like ANY party. Who goes to a party without verifying with the host before? Usually, it’s those who don’t respect the host or the host’s desires regarding their guests’ behaviour. The party crashers.

how about letting out the location of the meeting place 48 hrs before the ride? it makes it a bit easier to plan the day.

Robert,
Thanks for the response.

I totally agree that the party crashers should be filtered out somehow. But it’s also inconveniencing those of us who are getting out of commitments early to attend the party, or who don’t have the opportunity to go on pre-rides, so in turn, don’t know the start point.

I totally agree that it makes sense to respect what the host wants – But I’m leaving an important class early to make it to the meeting point on time. It would help me a lot to know where the meeting point is ahead of time, so I know how much time I need to give myself. I can only miss so much class. I have friends in the same boat, too.

Also, are you saying that if I contact/communicate with a host, they could tell me where the meet point is?

I would have gone to the pre-rides but I had too much stuff going on.

I just meant that those who check this web site any time in the 24 hours before it starts will know exactly where to go. Anyone who’s been to this site since the No Pants ride last month, or talked to anyone who has, will know when the starting point will be announced.

My recommendation to you and your friends is to check in here tomorrow evening and plan accordingly. It’s just a party, not the departure of a cruise ship.

And Ernest my friend, if it’s an important class, don’t leave it early for a party. Get the route tomorrow evening, and join it in progress when the class is over. Partys happen all the time. Important classes don’t. Partys are cheap, important classes are expensive in many ways. Take it from an aging important class skipper.

Thanks for the advice. I would, but it’s my last SJbikeparty before I move for school, so it’s a kind of a special thing with some good friends.

Anyway, my email is Imernest@comcast.net – if anyone happens to have any “useful information” for me.
Thanks

My tires are super pumped up. Now all i need to find is beach stuff…

I hope that by coming to the site for details everyone is also just as pumped and gets a chance to read “how we ride”.

If you have a blast, volunteer somehow, it makes the whole event even better each month. I started doing a pre-rides recently. Bring a trash bag, ect.

See you Friday.

Bike Party!!!!!!

I agree, it’s about time the starting location was changed. There are so many other good places for it. I also endorse the idea of not pre-announcing the start date too early.

HOWEVER, I would like to at least see the START TIME posted clearly, because that’s what people need to know most when making plans.

fyi: the details of this posting (rules 1-8 do not appear and everything beneath that) do not show up properly when using Internet Explorer 8.0. Luckily I am using Firefox and it appears properly. Admin, you may want to check on that.

yes i think around 3 or 4 hills going over freeways.

Also the reason why we get so many db imo is because of THIS!!

http://criticalmass.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_rides

San Jose (w) [18], [19], a “Bike Party” every third Friday at 8:30pm, downtown Campbell.

Their listing bike party as a critical mass type ride.

At second reststop right now, and I must say this is one of the best bike partys so far!

I like the idea of critical mass but the riders are inconsiderate to the neighborhoods that they are going through! I got to work at 2:30 in the morning so rolling down my street and yelling at 11:15pm – midnight just pisses me off. Your bike party sucks! Please be respectful if you want people to be behind your movement.

I have to agree with concerned citizen…the bikers are inconsiderate and woke my newborn… So my whole family is now awake because of this protest have your fun but be considerate. You want my support…finish your ride before 10pm or stay away from residential neighborhoods! I bike to work and have been for years but this looks more like an excuse to drink. the number of riders drinking beers is ridiculous.

Did anyone see two guys pulled over by the police around the corner of Baugach*spelling* and Almaden?

I was pulled over for a “moving violation” from making a legal left turn in the left turn lane when it is completely green. Saying I failed to yield to some truck that didnt even enter the intersection. The Bike Party Bird was even giving us the go ahead to turn, and I feel incredibly singled out of a huge group for doing absolutely nothing wrong.

If anyone was there who saw the incident and could help testify for me and my friend, or help in anyway, please email me. I was wearing a brown hat, black shirt, northface backpack, blue road bike with tail/head lights. Thanks! >_<
