I cannot tell you how dismayed I was to receive this email (from a neighborhood email distribution list). I hope that those of you who behaved this way can appreciate that you have undone countless hours of work by dedicated people promoting safe cycling, and that you have contributed to the stereotype of cyclists as stupid jerks:

I was coming home from Stanford with my kids about 10:00 pm and while stopped on Foothill at El Monte, saw a disorganized stream of every type of bike imaginable (i.e. not the guys on fancy bikes with racing stuff on) - mostly college age kids, stream across the Expwy. There were easily 50-75 of them and they continued down El Monte and made a right on Cuesta. I tried to avoid them by going Covington to Clark to get to Cuesta - but there they were on Cuesta. Some of them had reflectors on their bikes, NONE had lights. They were spread out on both sides of the street, going very fast, and weaving in and out of traffic. I was incredibly scared that I was going to hit at least one. As I slowed down - with my turn signal on to pull into our driveway they passed me on BOTH sides of the car.

I love bicycles and generally support their quest for more accommodations, but this was ridiculous. I can't believe someone didn't get seriously hurt.

This was a fun ride, a few too many cops but what can you do. The tree fire at Shoreline was tragic. I don't think it was lit internally just a bad shot. We don't need this kind of press. Fireworks look nice but are trouble. We don't need them on our rides. I think the hills around Foothill College were a bit rough for the occasional riders. Overall I had a good time!

Yes the bottle rocket , it gets you on occasion for instance !
The Puerto Rican Rocket Scientist burned the house down.
Across the street from me on the 4th of July’ with a bottle rocket.
A Bottle rocket is a dangerous thing. You really should have a
brain just a little bigger then a firecracker to operate such a device.
