I know it wasn’t all perfect but, for the most part; it was an absolutely joyful experience, to spend a beautiful Friday evening wit a mostly friendly, and cooperative crowd.
Great music mixes, plus a fun & happy crowd.
Bike Party!
yea the tree catching on fire from a bottle rocket at Shoreline was very bad for bike party…that could have turned really bad with slightly different circumstances….I was surprised the cops did’nt shut it down at the next stop because of that…hopefully nothing bad becomes of it…
I am in complete agreement. This kind of behavior deserves SJBP’s attention and, I sure hope it is last time this kind of extreme behavior shows itself at any Bike Party event.
This is the sort of nonsense that threatens the reputation and long-term viability of the Bike Party Community.
We all own and have a strong emotional investment in the health and viability of the Bike Party Movement to allow some idiotic person or group of punks, to hijack this beautiful, and awesome South Bay Bicycling Community event.
Bicyclists witnessing these kinds dangerous acts should step up, and take photos and be willing to alert law enforcement of culprits of any criminally dangerous, and inappropriate behavior.
This rather stupid act by scofflaws, is surprisingly brazen, given the preponderance of hidden cameras in so many metro centres; added to all the cameras carried by people everywhere in public these days; that even the path of an asteroid falling to Earth is recorded and goes viral within minutes.
Surely, anyone attempting this kind of stupidity in the future should be aware, that he is probably being captured on camera, and is not operating in anonymity.
Spliffer is right. if we take pictures and videos of people taking advantage of the party for an excuse to act poorly they can be held liable . just look at the fallout of the riots in San Francisco last year. twelve arrests is nothing to sneeze at.
Yes the bottle rocket , it gets you on occasion for instance !

Across the street from me on the 4th of July’ with a bottle rocket.
A Bottle rocket is a dangerous thing. You really should have a
brain just a little bigger then a firecracker to operate such a device.
This was a fun ride, a few too many cops but what can you do. The tree fire at Shoreline was tragic. I don’t think it was lit internally just a bad shot. We don’t need this kind of press. Fireworks look nice but are trouble. We don’t need them on our rides. I think the hills around Foothill College were a bit rough for the occasional riders. Overall I had a good time!
I cannot tell you how dismayed I was to receive this email (from a neighborhood email distribution list). I hope that those of you who behaved this way can appreciate that you have undone countless hours of work by dedicated people promoting safe cycling, and that you have contributed to the stereotype of cyclists as stupid jerks:
I was coming home from Stanford with my kids about 10:00 pm and while stopped on Foothill at El Monte, saw a disorganized stream of every type of bike imaginable (i.e. not the guys on fancy bikes with racing stuff on) – mostly college age kids, stream across the Expwy. There were easily 50-75 of them and they continued down El Monte and made a right on Cuesta. I tried to avoid them by going Covington to Clark to get to Cuesta – but there they were on Cuesta. Some of them had reflectors on their bikes, NONE had lights. They were spread out on both sides of the street, going very fast, and weaving in and out of traffic. I was incredibly scared that I was going to hit at least one. As I slowed down – with my turn signal on to pull into our driveway they passed me on BOTH sides of the car.
I love bicycles and generally support their quest for more accommodations, but this was ridiculous. I can’t believe someone didn’t get seriously hurt.

The mischief at Shoreline of lighting the palm tree on fire and subsequent cheering of said by some, reflects very poorly on what bike party is.
