Lock up yer sister cause this month we are gonna be exploring the Silicon Valley Hillbilly style. Think banjos, coveralls, jaw harps, and wWashboards. Teeth are optional. Daisy Dukes should be fine too as long as you don’t get too cold.
While the warm summer days have dwindled it still seems like good weather for a hoedown this Friday but as always you have to judge for yerself.
Being neighborly is the Hillbilly way (see How We Ride!), lest we start off another feud like the legendary Hatfield’s and McCoy’s. Turn down yer tunes in residential areas after 10pm!
Information on the route and more after the drop …
BIRDs
BIRDs are our wonderful volunteers that attempt to keep everyone on our rides safe. Please be respectful of their directions and thank them for all of the effort they put into the ride. If you want to help out and make your mark on Bike Party, please join the BIRDs at the volunteer cicle prior to the start of the ride.
Ravens
Ravens are the elite group of BIRDs that make sure we leave no trace behind by cleaning up after the party at regroups. They are essential to keeping the party going and they can’t do it by themselves. When you see any of them with a trashbag collecting your trash, please thank them! They are a really cool bunch. Please bring trash bags and help us leave no trace.
How We Ride
If you follow these simple rules, Bike Party will be safe and a positive place for riders, drivers, pedestrians, and our community.
- Stop at lights
- Stay to the right
- Pack your Trash
- Roll Past Conflict
- Ride Sober
- Be nice

Feeder rides
Feeder rides are a great way to get to Bike Party They allow you to make great friends and get to know people who live near you. They also make it super easy to get back home as a group as most folks ride home with the group they arrived with. You save the planet and save on parking while getting a little bit more exercise. It’s all good.

I have to agree with Ian about January 2011! I couldn’t feel my hands, feet or face! I was one sad looking clown after that weather! lmfao. I remember pouring my shoes out at the end.

Hey, no picking on January 2011! That was the Orange ride, and it was completely dry! I think Ian is talking about Feb 2011 (Animation Ride), and Andrea is talking about January 2012 (Circus Ride to Los Gatos).

Yes, you’re right… I read his incorrectly and just remembered January standing out in my head. haha Temporary lapse of thought, since it was Los Gatos.

There could be an afternoon break in the rain, that could run into the evening, and hold through Bike Party, so a “wet ride” is not a certainty.
So, all you fair weather bicyclists, don’t you give up too soon on tomorrow’s ride ’cause Mother Nature always has the final word.

The links to the map and turn by turn directions are above, it does look like rain tonight. 17 MPH winds and a 90% chance of rain. I don’t mind the rain but the wind can get brutal! Do wear your rain gear! http://www.bing.com/weather/today?q=weather%20san%20jose&unit=F&FORM=DTPWEA

Remember for the Rain.
Put your map in a ziplock bag. That way you can see it and it wont get wet.
It takes about a full revolution before your brakes catch your tire. Plan ahead.
Wear Lights.
A cheap way to keep your feet warm is socks, then a plastic bag then shoes. Or Just bags out side your shoes.
Dress in layers. It gets cold and hot.

Here are a few words of wisdom to my bicycling brethren.
Please be extra careful and vigilant when riding in heavy weather during this time of the year. Light up your bicycles!
It gets real dark during this time of the year and it’s imperative to be seen in the intense darkness.
Follow the rules of the road.
Please err on the side of caution! Respect the ride and respect your fellow bicyclists!
We must avoid bicycle car collisions by eliminating all risky behaviors on the streets! Don’t be a casualty of your own unbridled bravado.
Let’s have great FUN, keep the PEACE; and Bike Party safely together — forever!
