This Friday we will be celebrating SJBP’s 5th year with a Halloween theme. Think ghosts, goblins, zombies and other creatures of the night. Oh, since it’s also a birthday party, a party hat is in theme as well. Hopefully someone is gonna bring CAKE!
Be safe, legal, and courteous (see How We Ride!). We share the road with other traffic. Helping cars move through smoothly makes the ride more enjoyable for everyone. Do your part to encourage good behavior! Also, please remember to turn down the volume when riding through residential areas late at night.
Information on the route and more after the drop …
BIRDs
BIRDs are our wonderful volunteers that attempt to keep everyone on our rides safe. Please be respectful of their directions and thank them for all of the effort they put into the ride. If you want to help out and make your mark on Bike Party, please join the BIRDs at the volunteer cicle prior to the start of the ride.
Ravens
Ravens are the elite group of BIRDs that make sure we leave no trace behind by cleaning up after the party at regroups. There are only a couple of them so and they need your help as the task they are performing is essential to keeping the party going. When you see any of them with a trashbag collecting your trash, please thank them! and help them out. They are a really cool bunch. Please bring trash bags and help us leave no trace.
How We Ride
If you follow these simple rules, Bike Party will be safe and a positive place for riders, drivers, pedestrians, and our community.
- Stop at lights
- Stay to the right
- Pack your Trash
- Roll Past Conflict
- Ride Sober
- Be nice

Feeder rides
This month’s ride will have multiple starts, so you probably won’t need a feeder ride.

You must wait until after the drop.

Wow! Fifth anniversary already? It adds weight to saying: time flies when you are having fun.
I remember being fairly new to SJBP and consumed with unabashed joy at the second anniversary ride.
Let’s totally celebrate this occasion my bicycling brethren, SJ Bike Party Anniversary rides are very special events. It is the one ride of the year where the Bike Party Community comes together to celebrate our life-long love all things bicycle.
This SJ Bike Party Anniversary ride is like the “bicycling-Thanksgiving” in the Bay Area bicycling community. We give thanks to the Bike Party Movement that gave life to an idea that resided deep in the spirit all bicyclists.
This is a call to all bicycle lovers everywhere to grab your road ready bicycle and come on down to celebrate — Anniversary #5 — with SJ Bike Party. This is the one ride of the year you don’t want to miss!

Probably Eastridge. I hope it’s the top of the parking structure, that was fun two years ago at Oakridge.
Last month the regroup at The Plant was too spread out. I hope we can stay together this month.

The multiple starts looks like an “interesting” twist. So is everyone starting at 8:00 from each starting point?

October 18, 2012
That is correct. every one will leave their starting point at 8p. we will converge at the first RG.

October 18, 2012

October 18, 2012
I’ve done both. Never again will I miss the first leg.
Missing the first quarter of a game/play/concert sucks. This was worse since BP isn’t a passive experience. All my fellow participants already had all the energy, excitement, stories… and I was just starting out. Pick a starting location and ride there by 8, it’s so worth it.

Quick question-how do you get from the end pt to your car if you leave your car at the starting pt? It’s quite a distance to bike it.
Justin T
October 18, 2012
RG1 and the End point are the same. Whatever your start point is/was wont be that far from the end point.
Tian
October 19, 2012
I suggest that you park your car near the end and then get to the start. You could take the light rail from Dirdon to Downtown Campbell and then ride out to the Campbell Community Center, which isn’t that far.

I would skip Hillsdale and stay on Capital Expressway
On the March ride there were some cockroaches throwing
Rocks the size of baseballs at the riders. One of the little
Dog Logs tried to pull me off my bike. I know one rider
Had already been hit with a rock. At the time of my incident
The cops had already been called’ by the previous victim so by
Time I figured out what was going on they all scrambled back
in to the apartment complex. If you do ride by this @#%! Hook
Carry a baseball bat with you. If you get one of the little dog logs
Ill buy you a lunch at High Five.

October 19, 2012
To the organizer, last time we tried to do a regroup at Capital Century Theaters, security closed the parking lot and called the police. How do you know it wont happen again. Everyone was pist off since we had to skip it and go strait to the starting point which was a kinda long distance.
Justin T
October 19, 2012
Hey Gil, Last time the riders tried to enter the actual drive-ins and not the parking lot of the walk in theaters, so the kicked us out entirely. We will try this again, if they kick us out, there is an empty parking lot ahead on route at the Hillside Church. We can RG there… in the event it doesnt work. Its only about 3 blocks away from Cap Driveins

October 19, 2012
C’mon SJBP organizers… think fun and safety first! First, it’s not much fun parking at the official start (Caltran) and waiting for an extended amount of time for the three feeder rides to arrive at who knows what time before beginning at what will also be different times. Second, it’s neither fun nor particularly safe for those who begin their ride at a feeder point and leave the end point (Caltran) after midnight or 1:00am and ride alone or with a small group of people through questionably safe areas, especially if wearing a Halloween costume. Been there, done that, never again. Unfortunately, I’m skipping this ride and request that future rides start and end at the same location!

October 19, 2012
Steve, I think your misunderstanding … the 3 starts are not Feeders. they are official starts. Caltrain is just the first regroup. I disagree about your second point riding a bicycle by yourself is perfectly safe. I do it everyday. Hopefully we will see you on a future ride.

October 21, 2012
i agree with you on start point make it one location for begining and end, i had women come up to me afraid to ride back to the winchester start point from downtown or from the capitol rest stop,
i couldnt help them or ride with them, so keep it one location where
people can park there cars nearby.
Steve Wozniak
October 19, 2012
Actually, I do understand the official starts and I politely disagree that riding streets alone for more than 5 miles after midnight or 1am from Caltran in San Jose while wearing a Halloween costume is completely safe. Please consider previous SJBP incidents involving objects thrown at bicyclists, broken glass/tacks on the road, and more than one car/bike accident where bicyclists have been hospitalized. Having written this, I do look forward to participating in next months ride and wish everyone a safe and Happy Halloween SJBP event!

October 19, 2012
Hey Steve,
Though I’m comfortable riding at those times and places, I can appreciate where you are coming from. No worries.
.
I’d seriously encourage you to scroll up the page here and view Tian’s excellent suggestion of parking at Diridon and taking the Winchester light rail that leaves Diridon at 7:27 to arrive at the Campbell station before 7:40, leaving you 20 minutes to pedal west on Campbell to the Campbell Community Center start.
I have a hunch there will even be other BP cyclists on that train doing the same thing.
.
one thing though, if you are using your iphone, don’t rely on Apple Maps between the LR station and the CCC.
.
I hope you decide to ride tonight, it should be epic,
David

Woot, woot!! This is the greatest party on wheels — ever conceived — in America today, right here in San Jose.
Come on out and manifest your bicycling pride!
There is safety and security in the thousands upon thousands of bicyclists that will be out in what should be a “SJ Bike Party tour-DE-force” tonight. We will take care of each other — like we always have — and we’ll all enjoy a fantabulous 5th Anniversary Ride.
Bike Party is all about the music, the good cheer, the awesome food; and being out with the uber-cool, totally supportive; funnest bunch of folks — this side of the universe — that gives this event it’s HUGE positive vibe. It is un-matched anywhere on the planet.
Come on, my bicycling brethren, let’s Bike Party together… forever… manifesting our life-long love of bicycling in: safety, peace, friendship and community!

Hoping that the bikers are more respectful of Willow Glen this time around… last time you guys did this, it was extremely rowdy, we had tons of trash left over, and I had bikers literally surrounding my car and yelling at me for being on the road.
I would love it if this event stayed out of our usually calm and friendly neighborhood.

Loved the ride. So many people got in the Halloween mood big time. We totally missed the Capitol Drive-in…too bad. Unfortunately the directions did not include, as they have in the past, the Regroup sites by name. Some of us do not have speedometers or GPS so bring back the old school directions.
