It’s the SLOW RIDE ! ! ! ! !
Everyone is welcome, so invite your friends!
Come help us test out the route for Sept’s ride.
BTW The theme is The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
We will get together nearby for dinner after the ride for anyone that wants to attend.

Another awsome ride!!!
The only issue we seemed to have was with that cop giving us a little flack about staying on the bike lane, but nothing to worry about.
Had a great time. Look forward to the upcoming official ride.

That was a great turnout for a test ride. What a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon/evening of the holiday weekend.
Thanks to Carlos for leading, and thanks to the cheerful group of bicyclists for making it a fun and entertaining ride.

Yesterday I was attempting to drive to Big Lots to go shopping when you bike hooligans took over the streets in Campbell.
I found multiple issues with your so called bike party.
1. Bikes simply do not belong on the streets. Streets are made for cars not for bike hooligans.
2. Riding a bicycle at night is dangerous. All those fancy flashing lights distracted my vision. I am a senior 76 year old woman so my vision at night is not so good. Those fancy lights of your we’re distracting!
3. I arrived late at Big Lots and they were closed. Bike Hooligans! Please do not block the road and let cars through!

Hi Wilma,
Your claim that “bikes do not belong on the streets” is incorrect. Please familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations of bicycle riding in California. From the DMV: “Bicycle riders on public roads have the same rights and responsibilities as motorists, and are subject to the same rules and regulations.”
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/fast_facts/ffdl37.htm
Secondly, if flashing lights are too distracting for you to drive perhaps you should consult your optometrist. There are flashing lights everywhere not caused by cyclists. Here is a helpful DMV resource on the vision standards for driving in California: http://apps.dmv.ca.gov/dl/driversafety/vision_table.pdf
I hope this was helpful, sorry about your trip to Big Lots.

With all due respect ma’am, you cannot rightfully blame “your failure to plan a timely visit to a store” on the bicyclists on that ride.
Those bicyclists are tax paying citizens and had just as much right to be on the street as any other vehicle — as long as they were following the law, as it pertains to operating a bicycle on the street.
Please be careful of blanket labels like; “bike hooligans” because you’d be surprised to find out that a significant number of Bike Party enthusiasts are quite accomplished individuals.
If riding a bicycle on the street at night was illegal, don’t you think the peace officers would have arrested, or sent the group packing?
May I suggest that you plan your future trips during daylight to compensate for your admittedly severely reduced vision at night and to avoid those distracting bicycle night lights.
Peace and safety on the streets!

Since you bike hooligans are listening to reason, I will record your mis-deeds this Sunday September 9th.
I will place a camera at one of the Campbell intersections with a STOP sign. I will record each stop sign violator. I will also walk the intersection in a square pattern while recording with another camera. Please stop for this little old lady and do not hit this pedestrian while I cross the intersection. You are on camera!

Hey Wilma, While you are recording, can you also count the number of bike riders and post it? That would be very helpful as its hard on large rides to get an accurate count. Thanks!

Hey all you bike Hooligans!!!
Are you ready for Test Ride #3 this upcoming Sunday?
I had a great time on Test Ride #2, and was hoping this ride was going to be a similar “Slow Ride.” Can anyone confirm this?
If so, you can all count me in for this one.
Oh, and Wilma.. you should get a bike and join us. You might find it to be a lot of fun

Wilma,
I am truely sorry that you did not make it to the store in time. But to inform you that bicycles have the right to be on the rode. California law saw we have to flow the same rules as motor cars. I just took a drivers Ed class so I know this. Plus I just road 70 miles today passed many cops. While riding on the side of the road and in the rode with the shoulder was to small. They did not say anything to me. I will be glad to stop for you at all the stop sign for you. But let’s be honest. I living in Campbell just down the streets from big lots. And te cars are worse at stopping at stop sign than bicyclist. So dont blow your horn at us just bc we in you way to get to the store. Instead of watching us how about you go and tell all the drivers to stop at the stop signs. Or how they do not respect us for being on the road. If you are really that upset we can meet and have a cup of coffee and talk about. Bc we live so close. It’s up to you.
Gary.

As per the Bullhorn announcement for this upcoming Sunday’s Test Ride #3 (This will NOT be a slow ride!) Does this mean that casual slow riders like myself are not encouraged to go? Will I be left in the dust? I’m just wondering since I would like to go, but if I am left behind it would be no fun. Test ride #2 was awsome.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks…

Hello Randy,
I am not an organizer but I may have some info on that.
The term “SLOW ride” is loosely explained as what is written. Someone who travels at around 14-16 mph can easily be called SLOW or FAST in terms of difficulty. People travel fast, it doesn’t mean you need to chase them down if you know where you’re going in the first place.
SLOW should be more of “no drop” ride. Because this is really what it means by “NOT a SLOW ride.” This usually means there’s people going fast. But if you go at a 14-15 mph pace. What really separates you is the traffic signals. This just means the group that passes the light doesn’t stop and wait.
Let’s just say this ride will have people get dropped if you don’t keep pace. Just like cycling races. If you stay in the main Peloton and not the guys sprinting ahead. You end up meeting them at about the same time.

I think that’s one reason that SJBP has regroups. It allows the slower riders to catch up with the faster ones. But test rides are not races or training rides. If you were able to keep up with the main group on test ride #2, you’ll probably be fine. The ride may get split up into several smaller groups going at different paces. Just be sure to have directions with you in case you get separated.

Hello (Tallassmike) and (Moo),
. I will take your advice and carry a map just in case I get separated… See you there on Sunday!
Thanks for helping me understand the difference between these rides.
I guess I will just give it a shot and hope I can find a group that rides at my speed

Bike hooligans,
I let the Campbell Police Department know of planned bike hooliganism in the grand city of Campbell. The police promised me they will post officers at several of the intersections.

Like a few of us suspected, Wilma is a “mythical creation”. She is the creation of some “imaginative Campbell resident”, who desired to send a message to the bicyclists on that initial test ride.
Let’s just face it, what senior citizen threatens folks with sophisticated camera set-ups at a stop sign?
That’s what gave it away!

Hey riders, how would you like a food truck for this event?! Sounds good right? I can provide quick snacks and beverages for riders to re-energize them or whole meals for families. Tacos, burgers, sandwich, etc. I have it all. Look for me at all the stops if your hungry!
