March’s theme is definitively a tip of the hat to San Jose’s sister city of Dublin, Ireland. The home of Guiness. The ride is the night before St Patricks day so we’ll party early. Think green, lucky charms and lots of Irish accents. A nice thermos of Irish coffee might hit the spot as well.
Also of note is that we are planning a special ride with the 342nd Lord Mayor of Dublin. He is in town visiting San Jose. Look for more details to be posted on this page later. But for now keep your calendar clear on Sunday, March 11th from 10am to noon. We will show him how SJBP rolls.

How fast is this ride? Want to make sure I don’t hold people up or slow it down.

I’m looking forward to The Irish Test Ride #2 on Saturday, March 3rd.
It’s advertised as a SLOW test ride and they promise, ‘No one will be dropped’.
You should give it a try.
But please don’t bring a ‘bike’ with a two-stroke motor. Please.

Looking forward to coming out with my family. My wife and I did the test ride this past Friday and had a blast. This was our first participation as a rider vs spectator. I hope to write up an article after the March 16 ride.
Here is an older article I wrote. Feel free to share/add comments.

My buddy and I went on test ride #2. As luck would have it, my buddy got a flat at the starting point just minutes before the ride began, and I got a flat right before the regroup spot.
I just want to give a shout out to to a lady and a gentleman (sorry I didn’t catch your names) that helped out my buddy, and I especially want to give a big THANK YOU to Dustin and Mike for helping me out with my flat. I owe you guys a beer and hope to return the favor one day.
I’m looking forward to the next ride…

I’m thinking we need a preride from downtown Mountain View Caltrain to the start of the actual ride on the 16th. Is there a form I fill out someplace to put this on the preride list?

March Spoke Card Scavenger Hunt
Hi All,
.
During The Mardi Gras Ride, several of you said you liked the idea of hunting for ‘Gumbo’, my cute little dog who helped me ‘hide in plain sight’ a stash of spoke cards.
.
Oh dear, now, just in time for The Irish Ride, ‘Lassie’ is nowhere to be found.
See the pic of the flier in the SJBP flickr pool to your right?
Are those spoke cards sticking out of the top edge?
.
18 (and counting) of my co-workers who live all around Silicon Valley have agreed to put up one or more of those fliers wherever they wanted to. Each flier holds one or more spoke cards that you can slide out of the top edge (see pic).
.
Once I get the ride art and print it, I’ll load the fliers and get them to my co-workers.
After they put them up, I’ll let you know where, and hopefully one is close to where you ride.
.
A few personal requests:
> One card per cyclist please, so others can enjoy the hunt.
> If you get the last card in the ‘flier’, please ‘leave no trace’, and dispose of the flier properly.
> Fun? Thoughts? Feedback? Please let me know because the plan for the 4/20 ride involves a game within the hunt, the 5/18 ride may add a ‘puzzling’ ‘piece’ to the hunt, and the 6/15 ride…
.
Stay tuned, once I get the ride art it should only be 48 hours to Happy Hunting,
David (Rider 44).
