Hurry up and get your taxes done so you can get the tax monkey off of your back. then come out and join us as we ride on the “traditional” tax day! Not yet done with your taxes? Well, the IRS has given you three extra days this year, so take a break and ride!
It’s time to get your fur on and let the wild things come on out. The weather looks to be fantastic but as always you need to be prepared for anything.
Remember your lights and follow the How We Ride rules! Be safe, legal, and courteous!
Route and More after the drop…
Route information
- Route Map
- Turn-by-Turn directions (plaintext)
- Map + Turn-by-turn directions (1.2M .pdf) – (Thanks Tim!)
Parking
Please avoid parking at the start location. Try a feeder ride to get to the start. If you do have to drive, you should be able to find street parking in the area within easy riding distance.
Music
If you’ve got a music system, bring it! Bonus points for an animal themed playlist! Please remember to keep the volume levels down as we go through residential areas late at night.
Feeder rides
Feeder rides are a great way to get to Bike Party They allow you to make great friends and get to know people who live near you. They also make it super easy to get back home as a group as most folks ride home with the group they arrived with. You save the planet and save on parking while getting a little bit more exercise. It’s all good.

I noticed that the flyer above for The Animal Ride has http://www.sjbikeparty.com, instead of http://www.sjbikeparty.org. Is that right? Just wanted to point that out in case it was a typo. Can’t wait for the RIDE!!!!

Moving back to San Jose this week. Heard about the bike party from a friend who saw a ride in his neighborhood. Would love to get back on my bike for a change and meet some new people. Would anyone be kind enough to give me some details about Friday night’s ride?
Thank you so much!

Given the inquiries I am getting from friends, “strangers” and colleagues, I think this Friday’s Bike Party will be BIG FUN.
What can I say but, it’s Bike Party with great weather — for a change — on a “sweet” East San Jose route.
You know how they give us so much love in this part of town. In fact the East Side folks feel like they are the “spiritual centre” of San Jose Bike Party.
The winter hibernation is over my bicycling brethren!
Let’s have a “rousing spring” SJBP community turnout before “Holy Week”!
(This “mischievous catholic” has to pull me horns beginning Palm Sunday but, until then…)
I can’t wait for the “fabulous food”, the grand cheer and, the positive vibe.
It’s Bike Partay time!!!
Bike Party forever!

Cool, from Dunne or Main?
I’m still getting over a cold so won’t be able to make it this month, if you’ll be in this neck of the woods I could laminate some spoke cards and we could do another dead drop at the usual spot. Just let me know.

Hi Britton/Lauren,
What time do you want to leave from downtown?
If we all meet up at City Hall, then we should leave for the starting point at 7:15pm.

I’ll be riding to the start from near Santa Clara University and would love some company! We can meet at the Safeway on The Alameda, and I’d like to leave at 7:00 sharp (at the latest). I’ll be there at 6:45.

can you guys post the start location instead of just a map, since my phone sucks and cant load maps, and also i really dont wanna ever look at the map anyways, i like surprises… i mean you guys always list all the feeder start locations, but you never actually list the starting point… i remember one time i rode 7 miles to a feeder only to find out start point was a mile from my house, wth
Rider 44
April 14, 2011
I’m sorry, I don’t understand. On the one hand you say you like surprises but on the other hand you sound like you are disappointed that you got to ride 7 miles to a feeder only to find out the start point was a mile from your house.
Wasn’t that a surprise?! If you enjoy riding a bike AND you enjoy surprises, that sounds like it should have been doubly good, you got to ride your bike TO a surprise! Sweet!

It seems like every month we always get people asking where the route is or when it will be posted.
A couple of ideas I have that may help people out so they don’t get frustrated.
1) Add a wordpress countdown timer/widget to the SJBP home page that counts down to when the route wil be posted.
For example
The route will be posted in 4 hours: 23 minutes: 15 seconds
That way it is obvious to people that the route is not posted yet and they need to wait a certain amount of time.
I googled a bit about wordpress countdown timers and it looks like there are several different styles to choose from.
Disclaimer, I don’t know how to program web pages so I don’t really know what is involved in doing this.
2) In the ride announcement under ‘Route and Maps’, instead of putting, ‘TBA’, have a link people can click on, but have the link go to a page that
clearly states the route is not available yet and to check back at a certain time. Maybe even include some info about, ‘how we ride’, the fun of volunteering, etc.
Then, when the route is supposed to be available, change the link that gets clicked to so the map is displayed instead of the ‘check back later’ page.
But if these are difficult things to do, then please disregard.
Thanks to the volunteers that keep this web site running smoothly.
jacky
April 14, 2011
I would think the easiest thing to do would enter that the route will be posted 24 hours before the ride where TBA is typed.

I have about a dozen LED flashlights to give away or trade on this ride. They’ve got little wire saddles and rubber bands, and maybe a little velcro, so they’ll stay put under your handlebars. Look for me, I’m that guy with too many headlights. You have to actually need a headlight and promise to use it. While supplies last. Your mileage may vary. Void where prohibited.

*** keep the middle of our starts CAR FREE please ***
i’ve got no idea if there are any tow away signs at the start tonight, but the lot is big enough for cars and bikes — but anyone with cars should ALWAYS park at the OUTSIDE EDGES of the parking lots ONLY!
it would be cool if people could spread the word to do that. it seems silly that so many are going to ride 20+ miles but they’re not willing to park 200 to 500 feet away from the middle of our starts.

There is so much anticipation in the air!
If you haven’t been to Bike Party in some time, please review the “rules of the road”.
Remember to share the road and just all the “important stuff” to keep everybody safe and together.
Please follow directions from your BIRDs volunteers. They are your best resource to a smooth and safe ride.
I am so pleased to be joining the coolest and most hip folks, with the greatest “sound mixes” — arguably — the “funnest party” on wheels in America today — that is — SJ Bike Party!!!!
Let’s keep it safe, fun and together my bicycling brethren!
It’s just “hours” till the start of “pure joy”.
(I find it so hard to focus at the office on this, the most beautiful day of the year for a Bike Party.)
So, I am outta here, me next stop is Bike Party!
Bike Party forever!
