Last winter saw virtually no rain on our rides, whilst this year is quite the opposite. However, after pouring off and on all Friday during the day, it turned out to be a beautifully clear night. The actual ride was completely dry until the last few minutes and not too cold. 82 brave Cowboys and Aliens mounted up and braved the weather, ready for a duel.
Those that attended were treated to an extremely fun ride that went deep into Saratoga and Cupertino. To settle the matter of who would win the duel between our Space Creatures and our Wild West Riders, we had Bike Jousting at the first regroup, thanks to one of the volunteers who keeps this fun going. It turned out to be a draw, but the real winners were everyone that turned up for the ride. We enjoyed smaller music systems and kudos to one of our riders who took his BIG music trailer on its virgin ride. It wasn’t covered up, even though it may have rained, so he is one brave soul!
More good news is that there was only 1 bike mishap the entire night (flat tire at the first regroup) so everyone was free to enjoy the entire ride. This was a shorter route (21 mi.) with longer regroups due to the great weather. The pace was easygoing and we lost no one on the ride (is this a first?).
One volunteer could not ride, so he drove along to assist with any bike failures and to partake in the fun at our stops. He even provided boxes of piping hot Peet’s coffee at the second regroup. This was so awesome and shows the great Bike Party spirit that our riders have.
The last leg of our adventure went through Santana Row which is always a highlight of any ride. And everyone finished the ride by grouping together at the end to share our reflections of the night. A half hour later a good percentage of riders were still there because we just didn’t want the night to end.
As with last month, another great (weather challenging) ride under our belts!

Another glorious night to be out riding a bike party! Despite a day full of rain, there was blue sky overhead and a nearly full moon risin’ as I headed to the start. A few sprinkles as people arrived reminded everyone why we were all prepared for a deluge, but that quickly cleared away and the ride remained rainless until the last few minutes as everyone pulled in to finish. We rode in the wonderful atmosphere between the clouds of a big storm, with that big ol’ moon shinin’ out behind dramatic clouds cruisin’ by.
The route was great!!! I remember looooong downhill runs with the wind at our backs. Everyone was in a heightened party spirit because (I think) we we all knew we were “gittin’ away with it”. Lots of participation with the theme for the small number of us, and the need for rain gear. Plenty of music too thanks to the hearty souls pulling trailers. And John B’s coffee treat was easily the hit of the night!!! Way to go brother.

I nearly wimped out on this one, and then when I decided to go I got rained on during my ride from downtown to the start … but despite my dirty butt and cold toes, I’m so glad I went on this ride. The route was really fun and took me to some places I hadn’t ridden before. I’m looking forward to summer rides, but I know now that Bike Party is a good time rain or shine. Thanks everybody!

Sincerest apologies for my evil clone’s loud and obnoxious behaviors. (It apparently somehow misinterpreted this month’s theme as “cowboy-alienation.”)
Luckily, my pal’s especially awesome clone with super navigational powers (Dune spice) prevented them from going Lost-In-Space (again!) in that dark labyrinth preceding the first regroup.
Extreme thanks to everyone who continues to contribute time, work, and life every month to make this ride what it is (too many to mention names), and our clones say they terribly missed all who couldn’t be there. (Maybe this is more good luck, reducing the quantity of evil clone’s unfortunate witnesses.)
Now it’s back to another depressingly long wait until next month…

Having to tend to other needs, I left the ride at the first regroup. I went into Saratoga and took hwy 9 to Los Gatos. There was no traffic. I turned off my headlight and let the moonlight guide me. For a brief moment I forgot I lived in suburbia and imagined myself out on the open road. It made up for having to leave early.

Awesome ride, mostly clear and brisk. Brought my friend Matt for the first time and he also enjoyed the ride immensely.

It was a great night. Those plastic ponchos work like charms!!! It totally beat the cold and I think I could have pulled off wearing a bathing suit underneath it was such a lovely night. I appreciate my clear cheap plastic poncho a whole lot more! Bike Party in the rain anyday! But it was a beautiful full moonish night… I really had a blast!

DANG! I was sooo conflicted because after doing all the test rides, I knew the route was awesome and I wanted to do the night ride sooo badly (I was going to go as the MotherEffin’ Ship from E.T.). But looking at the weather radar, I was certain it was going to be a wet ride, which I vigorously avoid.
I’m really glad it went well for you all, but…DANG!!!
