You can dress up as either a cowboy or as a spaceman or some twisted combination of the two. Most importantly is to remember to have fun and enjoy the ride.

This theme sounds great. I can hear Willie singin’ from the music trailers now.
I see TR#1 is scheduled for Saturday.
Weather.com shows ‘Showers’ on Saturday but ‘Mostly Sunny’ on Sunday.
That does make me think of a question I’d like to ask…
But since I know I don’t know all that goes in to planning these things, I won’t ask it.

you keep implying the question not sure why though…
once again test rides are scheduled based on availability for folks to lead them. If you want to actually get involved instead of just complaining about how you could do better please come to a Volunteer meeting and get involved and do better….

I really didn’t see that as coming across as complaining, but it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve made that mistake. My apologies, not my intention at all.
As I admitted above, I *know* I don’t know all that goes in to planning these things. I was just hoping that if the Sat/Sun decision was ‘a wobbler’, maybe it could ‘wobble’ to Sunday instead, since the weather looks better. Much like the ride this past Sunday ‘wobbled’ the start time a little bit to accomodate some other cyclists that requested it.
I’m a daily bike commuter that has all the wet weather gear so it doesn’t matter to me either way. But there is another BIRD I haven’t ridden with in a while and I’d like to ride with him (he doesn’t want to risk getting a bad cold again, which I understand), and the rest of my family doesn’t have the wet weather gear to ride in.
Sorry for any confusion my post caused, definitely not my intention at all.
I really do like this theme this month!

Your over-reaction makes me want to not volunteer.

As one of the many volunteers that help make Bike Party work, I’d just like to encourage you *to* volunteer.
There are a bunch of really great people who give a lot of their time and effort to make Bike Party work so well and many who (like me) don’t really do that much other than small, easy to do at the moment things.
Most volunteers I know really appreciate the opportunity to be able to ‘give back’ to something that has given our community as much as Bike Party has.
In a group this large it is understandable that not everybody agrees on everything. But the really amazing thing is that we can look past those disagreements and come together towards a common goal that benefits so many.
I know this last summer I was thinking, ‘no way are they gonna solve these problems’. Surprise to me, the participants rallied and made huge strides towards fixing the problems that IMO were making BP odious to our community.
Is it perfect? No, of course not. Based on past experience do I think BP can continue to overcome the problems that arise in the future? Absolutely.
Being able to be part of the solution is enjoyable indeed, please do consider how you can volunteer to make BP even better still.

Ohh, a chance to do dress up from Star Wars or Firefly. Looking forward for more details on the ride.

Could use some tips on keeping feet warm.
Hi all, for Saturday’s TR#1, weather.com says it’ll be dry and feel like 39-44! And the BIRD I hadn’t ridden with in a while is planning on coming too. Wehew!
Sometimes at that temperature range I find my feet getting cold. If anybody has any pointers on how they keep their toesies warm would you please share it with the group here? Thanks!

a lot of the cold feet problems are caused by lack of blood flow which can be due to too many Socks squishing the blood out of your feet.
My solution is to wear shimano sandals without socks it works really well at keeping my feet nice and toasty.
switching from your cotton socks to wool socks may also work jsut don’t go overkill on layers of socks or you will make it worse

A lot of shoes (like sneakers) are made out of “breatheable” materials which are not so great when your feet are cruising through cold air on a bike. Shoes that more air-tight (like leather) are better. Or you can create air-tightness by covering your shoes — either with fancy gear that you can buy or Safeway bags.
I also recommend wool socks. I wear my hiking socks on cold biking days.

Thanks everyone for the tips.
Ian, are you sure about the Shimano sandals keeping your feet warm when it’s cold? Googling shimano sandals brings up pictures of sandals that seem like they’d be better suited for August instead of March. I guess I didn’t understand what you were talking about.

hey ridenaked,
There is a ride coming up JUST FOR YOU!
Click on ‘Forum’ at the top of this page.
Under ‘General’ select ‘Get out and Ride’
Notice the Forum Topic
‘Saturday, March 12 – 11:00am – 3:00pm – San Francisco – World Naked Bike Ride’
I probably won’t be able to make it because I’m hoping to go on TR#3, but if you go, I’ve already made TWO spoke cards for the ride and you can have one of them.

Actually I have had the frozen toes issue also. I thought it may have been a blood flow issue, but then it seemed more like cool air just getting into my shoes while riding. I will be trying to create some sort of wind breaker for my shoes..or just buying something legit. Being cold is the WORST!!

My RSS reader just showed me a new post on CYCLELICIOUS about a blind cyclist killed in Illinois. At the bottom of the post it has a link to a previous entry titled
Tandem program for the blind at Palo Alto VA Hospital
A few of you have heard me mention interest in something like that but I didn’t know a program already existed. If any of you know any blind people that are interested, please get in touch with me. In the mean time I’ll see if I can find out more info about the program in Palo Alto.
Thanks,
David
