The Supermarket Street Sweep is an annual bike race that benefits the San Francisco Food Bank. Participants ride around the city to local grocery stores picking up food to bring back to food bank. There are “speed” and “cargo” categories, as well an additional prize drawing for extra food donations. At the end of the event, there is a prize party for all participants.
Check out their website for more details, including the large list of sponsors and prizes!

Taking CALtrain up. $7.75 each way. This is my favorite alleycat of the year. Don’t let the speed or streets of San Fran thing scare you. This “race” is as chill as they come … Plus its an amazing charity event with sooooo many prizes (and free beer?!?). Everybody wins!

I am thinking about going for my first time. I was also planning to go with caltrain . Does anyone want to make a group ride to this. Meet up early morning somewhere between tamien to sunnyvale station San jose area stops? I may just go solo anyway but company and new friends is always preffered! If you are just make the next post include some details for the group meeting place and time.

9:00 train from Diridon/SJ Shark Tank Station. I plan to be there at 8:45. Train will get to SF around 10:30. This leaves a little time for breakfast and BS. Sweep starts at Noon.
It’s hills and stuff, but y’all got gears! I think it’s 15 miles or so depending on the route you choose. Not that long because participants have to be done by 4 o’clock.
a blog about last year
Bring like $25 to buy donation food.

locks? I am thinking my cable for wheels and u lock style for the rest….I might also do a pair of running shoes since I am clipped in on looks and don’t want to do a pedal change.

I have the U-lock and cable combo, but I’ll be riding with a group so most likely won’t have to lock until the end of the event.
If your wheels are NOT quick release, you should be okay with just the u-lock. You’ll be spending 5-10 minutes inside each checkpoint store. You will also need to keep your receipts. They are normal markets and won’t hurry just cause you are in the middle of a race. Lock at your own discretion.
