Arrrr mayteys,
Be there an app for the iPhone that can keep all us lads and lassies on track?
If so, what is it?
If not, I’m going to challenge my friends that are iPhone app developers to make us one.
Maybe you could challenge your friends that are iPhone app developers to make us one too.
So what are the ‘must have’ features that this app should have?
1) Be able to read up to about 150 turn-by-turn street intersections from a simple text file and plot those addresses on a map.
2) Be able to verbally announce upcoming left and right turns. (also have silent mode)
3) Announce with an option of vibrate, audible alarm, or both when the cyclist has left the route by more than ___ feet. (200/500/1000…)
4) Display the route and be able to zoom in and out.
And what are the ‘want’ features?
1) Find the nearest OPEN coffee shop…
So what are the ‘must have’ features and ‘want’ features on your list?
This may already exist, but I don’t currently own an iPhone so I’m just not sure.
And if it doesn’t exist, I’ve gotta believe that, between all of us, somebody knows somebody that could make us a killer app to keep most groups on the right route.
Just trying to think of things each of us can do to reduce the number of wrong turns we end up making. (you got me thinking about this one Scott!)
Ride safe,
David

YES!!!!!!!! thank you for posting this idea!
I really hope someone can make a SJBP app to get all the latest SJBP info, blogs, updates, and maps/route while we’re on the ride.

potentially waze could be used for this… though they don’t seem to support a shared turn by turn yet…

there might be a work around for this. if you don’t have it already, mapmyride has an app for iphone/itouch users. i wonder if mapmyride, via your computer, will allow you to save a proposed route, so that you can view it later on your iphone/itouch? need to investigate…

Awesome theme idea. I love the irony of pirates taking over from the hijackers.

Oh. My. God. I am SO into this theme.
Avast ye thundering dunderheads! Where be yer lights anow?!? Fore and aft according to the Code or else it’s to the briny deeps with em. Why I’ll have they gizzards on a pike before the mast iff’n I sees even a single lubber ninja cross the bow o’me bike! Lay to and run out the nines hearties we’ll give em a taste o’powder and flint or I’m not Dire Cap’n Blackbird!! Arr!
Hmm. Need a flag … a BIG flag … and a hat …

Heh. It’s a gift. It helps that I look a bit like a pirate. Oh and maybe think a bit like one; I figure a regular keel-hauling never hurt anyone.
Keep a weather-eye out ere the day of the ride! We cast off at sunset into a fair wind, all good hands at the rail and let the Devil have the rest. Gar!
