I’ve been told guys are welcome too :)

  2. Katie says:

Guys are certainly welcome! In fact, Billy Cool is going to be there coordinating guys to help out during the ride. It should be a fun ride for both female and male riders!

  3. Ian says:

so katie are you saying it’s a good event to go to to meet girls? :)

  4. Katie says:

Haha! Well, one of the goals of the Ladies Ride is for female cyclists to meet other female cyclists… so I guess my answer is yes, although I don’t think that’s what you meant! ;)

  5. Townie Bill says:

Any ride with sunshine and ladies is a joy!

We gentlemen will be available for any ‘gender specific’ duties like collecting trash or providing mechanical support while enjoying the company of the ladies for a lovely Saturday morning test ride.

We know SJBP women can take care of themselves. This will be a very well behaved group with a much higher aggregate IQ.

This is their ride and when they are happy, we are ALL happy!

  6. Do you guys know about that proposed Santa Clara County NS-502.8 that’s coming up for a vote this coming Tuesday? A special event permit and insurance will be required for any “parade, march, procession, demonstration, or assembly that consists of fifty or more persons and which either is likely to impede, obstruct, impair, or require closure of a Road.”

This means you, Bike Party. Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition is asking Santa Clara residents to speak out against this bill.

  7. Ian says:

Richard, yeah we also are on the SVBC mailing list :) and are also trying to spread the word…

Though from what i can tell the bill would be illegal anyhow….

  8. Tony says:

SO for this ride, Mens are welcome? i have a couple of ladies friends that i want to invite for the very first time.

  9. Katie says:

    Tony,

The test ride is open to both sexes, but the test ride happened on Saturday, I’m sorry you missed it! There will probably be one more test ride before the real ride on July 24th, so keep an eye out for that. The Ladies Ride itself is really for women, but there are many men who are chivalrously volunteering to help out with the ride. :)

Please encourage your lady friends to come out on the 24th, newcomers are encouraged to attend!

  10. Adri says:

    Greetings,

What time does the ride start on the date of the real event, Saturday, July 24th, and long will it last? My daughter who just turned 12 wants a new bike, and I would love to take her to this event. Is this appropriate for a 12 year (she’s as tall as me…LoL).? She plays sports, so she should be able to hang for the 15 mile ride, most likely better than Mom.

    Please advise….thanks!

The bicycle was recognized by 19th-century feminists and suffragists as a “freedom machine” for women. American Susan B. Anthony said in a New York World interview on February 2, 1896: “Let me tell you what I think of bicycling. I think it has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. It gives women a feeling of freedom and self-reliance. I stand and rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a wheel…the picture of free, untrammeled womanhood.”

  12. Katie says:

    Hi Adri,

This is a family-friendly event, so your daughter should be just fine. The route is designed to be accessible for riders of all ability levels and experience, so I think both of you should enjoy it! :)

The ride will start at 6:00. Since it is 15 miles, plan on being out for about 3 hours as this will not be a fast-paced ride and there will be rest stops along the way.

    See you there!
    Katie

  13. Adri says:

    Hello Katie,

Thank you for the info, and I hope to see you there on July 24th.
