Sorry Timmypink, but I disagree. Becoming yet another bike club won't happen. More likely, those spending lots of their precious time planning, testing, informing and guiding the rides will diminish away and the rides will just stop. Or they'll just become much more private like the test rides. Just my opinion. Who wants to throw a party for jerks? [mod/tr:edited/cleaned up last word]

Well what we all can do is become registered riders! with that said what the organization can do is limit who is riding forcing everyone to register and take bike riding classes to ensure safety. I wouldn't mind volunteering to teach these classes. If everyone can register to be apart of bike party that will likely keep the trouble makers from riding. I have a lot of bike rides planned thru-out the summer and each one I am participating in asks you to register and pay a small fee to ensure that there is a safety escort around to guide us the way to the destination and a clean up crew of volunteers..maybe that's what we have to do for SJBP. So lets brainstorm and see what we can do to keep bike party running smooth without incident.

The video I posted shows a group stopped at a red light. Then, a few came up on their right side, crossed in the crosswalk as if pedestrians, then bled stupidly onto Cherry from the wrong side of that street.

That move comes from those who are comfortable riding in the left side sidewalk, and crossing there with pedestrians. It shows so many things wrong in their heads about riding a bike that I really don't know where to start in convincing them to change their ways.

@ Stan The Man
I totally agree with your statement.
We are not reaching the whole community through the WEB -- my best guess-estimate is that we probably have a 45 to 55 percent Bike Party Community coverage on the web.
That is why on a previous post, I urge taking the message to the street.

Rather bring SJPD in to Bike Party, we should do more with the "captive" Bike Party audience to communicate with strategically placed banners, loud speakers and designated individuals -- who would fan out among the crowd to explain eloquently the SJBP Rules of the Road.

It would have an effect on the new and younger riders who tend to inexperienced, confused and just don't know how to ride in the street and quickly adopt bad and unsafe .habits

We should also strive to communicate and post some of our "street messages" in "Spanish" just to so we reach all of our riders. I've noticed on all our rides that some bicyclists seem to speak only Spanish. We need to reach everybody

I have a strong belief that 75% of our problems is essentially due to mis-communication and ignorance.

We can overcome this if SJBP embarks on a massive education effort tailored to the assembled -- captive -- bicycling community during the monthly Bike Party event.

@ Brian #118 -- It is too late for a name change. Bike Party is an established and extremely successful "brand" akin to Google, Apple or ... "Botox".
I don't think you improve on perfection in branding by re-branding but, by improving the product, organization, strategy and tactics.

I truly believe that SJBP has the resources within its bicycling community to not only survive but, to thrive and solve all its problems. We just need to be more proactive, pragmatic, creative, and resourceful in persevering -- searching for solutions to the "persistent problems" that we all abhor and rail against after every Bike Party.
Likewise, I believe the opposite side of that idea is also true: that; the seeds of Bike Party's destruction are embedded within Bike Party.

The external enemies cannot destroy Bike Party.
But, like buzzards, they can hover and wait patiently for Bike Party to self-destruct before they dive in to feed on the carcass.
We can only drive them away by defeating; or subduing the enemy within.

Has anybody in "the organization" thought about changing the name. When things started out with pretty much law abiding cyclists it was a party but maybe having "Party" in the name is misleading now. I for one love to say "Bike Partyyyyyyyy!" but could get used to saying "Bike San Joseeeeeeee"

Just a thought.
