Bike Party is now on Twitter!!
Why do you care?
By activating the mobile phone update on twitter, you can get instant text messages DURING THE RIDE.
The ride went a different way? We will send an update!
The ride got broken up? We will send an update!
Emergency or warning ahead? We will send an update.
New theme announced, route map online, bike information you should know?… you get the picture.

Do you really think it’s a good idea for people to be looking at text on their phones while they are riding?
I dunno. I don’t think texting/twittering is a good way to convey real-time information during a bike ride. It certainly isn’t conducive to safety. Looking at the road in front of you and/or keeping both hands on the bars seems to be more important.
Using a bullhorn and ‘pass-it-along’ back through the group seems like a better idea, really.

We plan on using twitter updates sparingly during a ride. If its an emergency, the ride gets slit up and/or lost, or some other major issue arises we will use twitter.
Don’t forget, the person sending out the twitter updates is also a rider. So 10 text messages during a ride will be impossible.
I would love it if the “pass it back” method worked with 100% success. But it doesn’t. Twitter is the best way to reach a large amount of people in real time, especially when they are not all in one cohesive area.
Thanks for your thoughts.
