NEW route/start/finish! Update: Mad props to the 40-50 test riders. Huge Bike Party Thx to Lloyd, Jeff, Bob, Ed & others leading this test ride!

Parking: DT SJ Parking Map
PRE-RIDES: None at this time
MAIN RIDE: SJSU Campus Village start!
Folks – we’re having a “post party” after Bike Party on Feb 19th… so we’re now starting outside SJSU’s gleaming (almost) new Campus Village and ending next to the SJ Museum of Art.
Let’s meet at 10:30am and shoot for a 10:45am departure.
FEB2010_TESTRIDE#2_SAT_JAN30TH (25.18 MI.)
Keeps some of the previous routing spirit…
Nerd focus switched to great schools!
Including Lynbrook HS, with 2 of the 40 nationwide Intel Science Talent Search 2010 finalists! One each from Harker & Palo Alto too! Way to go SJ!
If someone can create Turn by Turn Directions on googlemaps and post it here and facebook that would be great.
We’re looking for more volunteers – so please step up and help in any way you can. From printing maps and attendee lists to getting fellow riders to become BIRDs. Or become a BIRD yourself! Get Involved!
New to Bike Party or curious? Test Rides are also a great place to start. If anyone gets a flat tire, you’ll have 1-2 other riders stay with you… as the ride will go on and you’ll easily catch up!

Here are some of the schools we go to or by:
SJSU, SJCC, Harker, Mitty, Lynbrook, DeAnza
Homestead, possibly Fremont, SCU, somewhat near Bellarmine.
We have some great schools.
In the news about Lynbrook HS:
“Two Lynbrook seniors are among 40 high school seniors from across the country who celebrated their selection as finalists in the Intel Science Talent Search 2010, America’s oldest and most prestigious pre-college science competition.”

supposing this ride makes the cut, i absolutely love the begining. the first 8 miles of the this trip are going to feel like old school bp rides. and the rest of the ride, esp de anza, SCU, and the entire city of santa clara section are going to be great!

Such a glorious day for a testride. While the route is still being developed, some observations and suggestions for our next testride:
If we can transition around SJ City College so that we come out onto Leigh southbound, we then go Rt. @ Fruitvale, Rt. onto Bascom, then Left onto Moorpark, and this could work.
The route across De Anza College needs to get us pointed toward the traffic light at Mary.
The left onto Lafayette should be followed by a Rt. at Benton, then a Rt. at the El Camino Real then across into the Caltrain parking lot (or around there somewhere) for the last regroup.
The route keeps getting better. We can refine, shape, forge, and evolve this ride. Just like real bike nerds might do. This really is a sweet route!
Good to be out today with everyone.

i agree with bill. those all seem like good ideas for re-routing.
my biggest concern was how long it took before the first re-group. it seems that sjcc is too close, but our first was too far. however, i am unfamiliar with greater san jose, so i do not have any reasonable suggestions for first re-group. any thoughts by those who also rode yesterday?

The ride Saturday was great. What’s better than spending a few hours out in the warm sun on a bike? My comments are:
1) A few people thought SJCC seems sort of early to regroup (mi 4)
2) When going through SJCC, we can’t exit Left onto Leigh. I suggested that we turn R at Leigh, R at Fruitdale, R at Bascom, L at Moorpark and it worked out good.
3) We thought that there should be a break right around Saratoga Ave (mi 7). I can scout the area next Friday to see if the Parking Lot at the supermarket is good.
4) Maybe instead of regrouping @ De Anza, we could regroup across the street at The Oaks shopping center…. See More
5) At the footbridge path @ 280 (mi 14), the turn by turn directions might state, “watch out for the short white poles before and after the bridge.”
6) The parking lot across from SJU would be a better regroup than SCU. I think the company was Roxio.
