We will have a test ride this morning, Sat, Jan 23rd. If you can only do a 24 mile loop, then drive over to Cupertino Square and meet us there. If you want a longer ride, you can try either of the earlier starts.
10:00am – Pre-Ride at SJ City Hall, by the Fountains (look for Yoshi)
10:30am – Start at Winchester (Century) 21&22 (across from Santana Row)
11:15-20am-ish — Cupertino Square (Vallco) by Macy’s

As long as my flag pole doesn’t get struck by lightning (I wouldn’t want my Bike Party flag to catch on fire).

If you’re interested in having more historical sites on the route that aren’t too far off:
391 San Antonio Rd., Mt. View – former site of Schockley Labs, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shockley_Semiconductor_Laboratory
844 E. Charleston Road, former site of Fairchild Semiconductors
367 Addison Avenue, Palo Alto, the original HP Garage. This is probably too far.
I don’t know if anyone would actually notice, but thought I’d throw these ideas out here anyways.

empty superfund lots aren’t very exciting are they
theres also a chunk of the berlin wall off of the route.

Start has been changed to 10:30 and will be somewhere in the vicinity of SCU (the last I heard).
I’ll be leaving from the city hall fountains at 10 if someone wants to join me.

Start is now changed above – 10:30am at the Winchester (Century 21&22) Domes across from Santana Row! This route is ~31mi round trip.
2nd “Start” is at the Macy’s parking garage at Cupertino Square (old Vallco). This route is ~24mi round trip.
IF you make the DT SJ Pre-Ride & Post Ride back downtown, it’s about 39mi round trip.

Starting from downtown ended up making it a 44.5 mile trip for me. Good times!

A very surreal moment… we should not explain on here what company was involved… what goes on in test rides, stays on test rides.

To those doing the “heavy lifting”: to establish a theme, map the route, and collaborate on a test ride, thank you. The rest of us are the benificiaries of your energies and without you, and those dedicated individuals behind the scenes, the sun sets on SJBP. Risk is everywhere and exponentially expanded when we fail to recognize an opportunity to become ambassadors of our beloved activity. To quote “Testrides”, we must tread gently.
High points of the test ride included:
1. View of the sky after the morning showers diminished.
2. 24 to 30 happy riders providing a healthy mix of opinions and social interaction.
3. Nothing like a Saturday afternoon Tornado warning from NOAH.
4. Animal style DoubleDouble at In-N-Out.
5. A hot shower and a cold beer after my 48 mile testride .
It was great to be out with you all yesterday. Let’s be sure to represent SJBP with poise and dignity as we become the face of SJBP. If we “roll past conflict” and impart information to fellow riders with a positive energy and a smile, the SJBP will continue to grow and flurish. This is too good to lose.

Well said Townie Bill, 48 miles, nice job! You Da Man… I also agree about rolling past our conflicts. I think we just made things worse yesterday. The views were beautiful and In & Out burger really hit the spot. It is a blast hanging out with SJBP! I will look forward to the next pre ride.
Thanks to the all of BIRDS great planning I wish I had more time to help… I work too much but I do try to make it to all the pre and main rides!
Rock on Bike Party!

Thanks to all 30 people who stopped and waited when I got a flat. Fortunately I always carry all the tools I need plus three spare tubes. After I broke away from the group in Mountain View and headed back downtown on El Camino on my own, I got another flat, thanks to all the stuff the storm has blown everywhere. It really pays to carry tubes and tools. I highly recommend it.

thanks to all of those that rode, 30-35 on a day that started out dumping rain. luckily it stopped before most of us rode. the roads were great except for some nasty lurking invisible potholes.
this just shows how important it is to get more city workers and officials out on our rides. so they can experience what we as active bikers have to put up with!
i’m sure there will be another test ride once someone figures out the next dry day?!?
