Hey peddle people.
We are getting our pedicabls ready for Santa Cruz’s last night parade, and we thought we might ride with you on the second.
pedicabs are not all that easy to ride uphill, especially these 1 speeds Do you have any idea of the overall climb involved?
thanks, hope to see you there.

okay. here we go. just got back from the test ride (and i am invigorated, but tired). i have a few notes: less hills is a must; the first stretch is fine (it sets our destination), but the next stretch, including two gnarley inclines, is difficult; the second stretch, though difficult, is doable, but leaves (and will leave many) exhausted, let alone willing to quit for many casual riders; if we continue the route as is after the evhs stop, we must first take a left onto quimby and into the upper lot, so as to not have to circle back slightly (this will also cancel out the small incline into the lower lot); the quimby —–> rue massou climg is going to be VERY difficult post teh two previous climbs; stop number two is where we need to reassess the route, in my opinion (perhaps some route that heads through quimby over to evcc); the climb up yb is doable, and the cruise down is phenomenal, so lets try and keep that in; king is problematic — just too much potential for vehicular incidents due to the strip malls on both sides of the street (maybe yb –> nieman –> aborn –> white and then cut to king after the strip malls?); the rest of the ride is cake.
all in all, i LOVED the ride, but i think it should be less severe for casual riders.

so how was the ride?
I know i would have rather ridden with you guys than made the 400+ mile drive from grandma’s house yesterday…

It was nice but quite hard because of climbing. I don’t recommend this route form the night ride, nice view though…

ride was pretty nice. the cool breeze and scattered clouds made it seem real SF-like.
the overall route is awesome. i think it needs minor tweeks such as the cross over of the light Rail by 1st might be hazardous.
I’m not sure if this is new territory for SJBP as far as i’ve been going it is a brand new. the scenary is spectacular.

The test ride was hard for us older ones….I love to ride, but hills make me want to quit. Some small hills are ok, but the test ride had way to many hills for me and I ended up walking up 2 of them (not fun). I invited some friends in their 60′s and they hung in there even though I had told them there usually aren’t to many inclines……looking forward to seeing the revised route. I thought the Story Rd. part was potential for accidents…to much traffic and the freeway overpass was dangerous during the day and even more so at night?
I loved the Yerba Buena downhill, but at night I will slow way down for that part.

@thoreauly77 agreed. the yb’s hill decline was exhilarating to say the least. i want to do that agn.
… Now, as an avid rider, all those the hills are a welcomed challenge AND… a awesome reward.
my casual cycle friends, on the other hand, will bail out before half way thru.
I think this would be a good opp. to introduce an easy and hard route like ski runs. could this be done?

please keep the comments coming… we’re looking at some drastic changes to the route and to see if we can add an “easy” and “hard” portion to the ride.
we’ll probably need to add another test ride for this route… most likely next saturday morning.

Had a blast but the hills were killer, I would scale them down a bit. Saturday sounds good for another ride… I was surprised by the large test ride turnout. I am hoping to see this more often. Rock on bike party!

The test ride was a good exercise ride. The hills will eliminate casual riders, heavy trailer dragging riders, and take people off their saddles to either climb it or hike up. The EVHS lot entrance needs to be adjusted.
I had to quit after EVHS. I couldn’t keep up with the group. =(

YUP folks let’s do it again on Saturday 11am?

Let’s keep it simple… Use alum rock then right to white road all the way to san Felipe rd, right @ Aborn left on Neiman right on Yerba buena right to Senter turn left tully right to Monterey left on Keyes to first street DT….end City Hall.
The hardest part is from Nieman to Yerba Buena but this should be doable to casual riders.
Can we test this route on Saturday 11AM????
