Its cold outside, so so cold so we are having a scarf ride!! This is an easy “costume,” and you have NO excuses not to dress up. We want to see that scarf fly like a flag!
Because of the season, we are pushing the ride up slightly earlier. Wheel’s will hit the street at 8 PM. That means, get there early!!!
Sneak peek of route and starting location:
- The ride will start and end in downtown SJ. As always, the exact starting location and route will be announced a day or two before the ride-perhaps earlier!
- The route will include a nice tour of lots of lights throughout the town (tentatively dt SJ, Willow Glen, Rose Garden, Campbell and more…)
Getting There:
- If you must use VTA, get there early. Light Rail fills up quickly. Take Light Rail early to downtown San Jose for dinner.
- If you need to park, park using the downtown SJ parking map, the orange lots are the cheapest. Or park at Tamien CalTrain and ride in; it’s only about two miles.
- If you are taking a train, the San Jose Diridon Station is the closest, but Tamien CalTrain Station has free parking – station list and map
- Ride your bicycle to the starting point! We will be announcing pre-ride meet ups with the route.
Other Important things to remember:
- We are having a can food drive. Bring a can, bring ten!! Help out those who need it this season
- We are starting early-don’t forget it!!
- If your bicycle/clothing is ill prepared for the cold wet winter weather? Winterize it. Join us for a great time at our Winter Wonderland holiday party two nights before Bike Party and get an extra SJBP discount that night only!
- Refresh yourself and your friends of the “how we ride” and bicycle laws.

Oh by the way i almost hit someone during the last ride who stopped in the middle of the road because his scarf was starting to get caught in his spokes…
soi just wanted to remind you guys to keep those scarfs snug and be aware of where you are stopping.

The NOAA weather forcast for Friday is “A slight chance of rain. Partly cloudy, with a low around 42.” Slight chance of rain means another probable glorious night for a bike ride. Maybe wet streets, but the riding should be sloppy at worst. Overdress for the temperature and you’ll be comfortable and warm, riding with music in the air!

weatherunderground calls for 20% chance of rain on thursday, but NO rain at all Fri-Sat, partly cloudy…. cloudy means it won’t be too cold.

This ride will blow you away! The test riders have added really cool features to an already feature packed ride. You’ll see more of downtown and several surrounding neighborhoods than you thought possible. Really cool holiday lights, events and “Dec only” sights were key goals on this ride!
This is one of those rides we’ll be talking about for a while! Thanks to all of those that rode the test rides this month – and for your feedback and suggestions that were baked into this ride.
Three requests:
1) Volunteers to help mark key intersections, ride with a BIRD or two, tell riders to own one lane, etc [ex: there is one stretch where we will want you to ONLY occupy the LEFT lane (of two lanes) for 3 blocks]. So please get involved. We still need Route Captains and Site Captains too!
2) Anyone have big signs or type II barricades that we can affix SJBP signs to?
3) Music – esp the trailers – please turn DOWN your music in residential areas on the smaller streets and turn them UP on the busier streets please!
===
Please get there early (via car to get best cheap parking, ride VTA early or start/join a pre-ride) to get something to eat downtown before Bike Party… we’ll roll no later than 8pm, so join the party around 7 or 7:30pm!

Everyone bring canned food to the SJRep!! If you forget, Zanotto’s is only one block away from the start point. Every little bit helps but feel free to make a BIG difference. Should be a fun ride.
